Element Leader: Second Lieutenant Sam.T

Pros:

  • Good comms with the dodgy radio situation (lots of radios to listen in on).
  • Convoy Net was handled well (again, lots of radios to listen in on tonight).
  • MASCAS events were handled well by Atlas.
Conns:
  • Instances of Atlas floating on top of squads without being called in an AO where we had already taken a MASCAS from an IDF strike.
  • Overall reaction to IDF felt sluggish or non-existent.
  • At least one instance of a trooper wandering alone without a battle buddy. Likely caused by the overflow and late-join situation, but still a fairly fundamental issue.

Pro:
  • Good siera crew pretty much autonomous on their positions
  • Good amount of contacts at AOI 3 and QRF
  • Good manouvering
  • Good infantry cover
  • Good atlas / CLS work triaging casulties
  • Good use of drone
  • Great fireteam leads
  • Good to get CQB action as V-4
Con:
  • Need to improve SR contact reports
  • Need to spread contact between squads over the entire mission AOI 2 was entirely V-1 AOI 1&3 was entirley V-4 with V-1 only clearing buildings
  • Dispropotionate unmanned vehicles to Crew number on the AI in AOI1
  • SBF made mutual support hard
  • Should have focused more on initial FOB causing a V-1 Mass cas
  • Push through to map earlier to mark it up it has no impact on any briefing and would have saved 12 minutes from the 25 min step of time

Con:
  • Frames did drop near the end making it difficult to land
  • Acre issues
  • Both issues above are hard to avoid, overall great experience.

Pros:

  • Plenty of casualties, lots to do.
  • Fantastic triage from Viking-4.
  • good communication and good teamwork in the squad.
Cons:
  • Issues with radios.
  • Security element, pretty pointless to be stuck on Atlas.
  • Triage before atlas arrive and handoff to medics.
  • Some minor issues with security.

Pros:
  • Squad level comms were excellent and clean despite high player count.
  • Good camaraderie.
  • Interesting mission concept with the side objective.
  • We especially liked the proximity of the 3 objectives and thought they were well done. They were within walking distance but positioned so as to not have the players engaged by 3 AOIs simultaneously.
Cons:
  • Technical issues:
    • Weird bug with Stryker firing constantly for Narramoor.
    • Abnormal number of folks running around without uniforms.
    • Players going invisible for other players.
  • No overflow squad. Recommend having someone step up and take the SL for overflow squad and just work with it as players fill in to prevent unrealistic squad sizes.
  • Frame rates low. Suspected cause was ZEI, Rain, & # of CAS targets.
  • IDF asset got loose from Zeus and killed several members of Viking-1 Bravo right at the start of the Op. Threw off pacing and immersion.
  • Requested to carry demo which did not get used. Very unfortunate with recent enforced restrictions on kits.

Pro:

  • Comms on the aviation side were good
  • Great communication with 5
  • Constant tasking kept us very and was very appreciated
Con:
  • Frames started dropping towards the end which made flying for some pilots almost impossible due to less than 7 FPS
  • Acre issues, although it wasn't super noticeable to me
  • Sling loading is still buggy and the helicopter randomly lurches, flips, and rotates instantly in whichever way and manner it sees fit

Element Callsign: BUFFALO-1
Element Leader: Warrant Officer 1 Hamm.C "Hooker"

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:

Second Lieutenant Highman.J
Warrant Officer 1 Bloggins.R

Pros:
  • Excellent mission concept.
  • Planning/briefing great. Excellent OPORD and well articulated in Leadership Briefing. Love those details!
  • Excellent crew work from Rotary personnel.
  • Excellent comms management/relays despite unfortunate very problematic ACRE issues.
  • Excellent flying from Summerfield.P and Spitnale.K despite extreme frame rate loss, down in to the single digits (6-8 FPS) for a substantial length of time. Flying helicopters in AFM is challenging anyway, but FPS drops like this makes it 10 times harder...so great job boys.
  • I definitely appreciate the side mission to set up FOB Jacob. I know that
  • Due to a few ridiculous things/unfortunate events/Arma being ARMA, there was some comedy value, so we definitely got some laughs.
Cons:
  • FRAMES! At some point, about halfway through the OP, frames went straight to hell. This results in extreme difficulty and frustration, especially when flying helicopters, which require precise and fluid and sometimes tiny control inputs to do things safely. I'm guessing this FPS collapse was likely due to some of the weather/environmental elements used, but I could be wrong since we've used them before. Somebody smarter than me should figure this out so we can avoid it, to the extent possible, going forward.
  • ACRE issues. I don't usually experience any ACRE issues outside of the training servers, but tonight was an exception. I wonder if we just need to do the radio reset thing at the start or if we need ACRE boxes placed so everybody can start with fresh radios. I don't know but getting that figured out and fixed would be awesome.
  • Sling loading was a good idea in concept, but it just doesn't work in AFM with Blackhawk. What happens is a totally random, in-flight, very violent, lurch to the left or right, banking and flipping the helicopter inverted in less than a second. Unless miracles happens (like they did tonight) the sling ropes strike the main rotor, destroying it and the bird and everybody dies. Luckily, when this "lurch" happened to me, I was kind-of expecting it, so I was able to cut the ropes quick enough to avoid catastrophe. I then RTB and switched from AFM to SFM and tried again, but for whatever reason, the ropes would connect to the pods but would break away after we tried to lift. These issues effectively caused us to have to abandon the FOP Jacob objective of this OP. As much as I hate the current Chinook model we have in this game, we need to use it if we are going to sling since we know at least it is reliably capable of doing that without the crazy random lurches. After sling loading whatever with Chinook, we can then switch over to Blackhawks or alternate as necessary.

*NOTE that at all times we were working on the FOB Jacob/slingload/side part of the OP, we had BUFFALO-3 detached and assisting with infantry needs/requests and would have certainly deviated to assist 7Cav our troopers if/when requested.
