Senior Commissioned Officer Promotion Requirements

Starting today the General staff have decided to adjust the requirements for commissioned officers to be promoted beyond the rank of Captain. Becoming a Major is a milestone for our officers as they move from being junior to the ranks of senior officers. One of the important parts of this process, not just from the expectation of our membership for them to be knowledgeable, is that they have a significantly increased likelihood to be the command authority for our Regimental Disciplinary Process. They will be the ones responsible for reviewing disciplinary appeals, initiating Article 15 investigations, reviewing investigator recommendations, and making final determinations during disciplinary hearings. It is imperative for our senior leadership to understand how this process works and to be familiar with the standards in which we conduct ourselves following our Rules and Regulations beyond the scope of what we expect from our membership, as they set the standard and are responsible for issuing fair judgement on unfortunate situations as needed.

With this announcement also comes an announcement of the first posting of the Regimental Disciplinary Process Training Course (RDPTC) which you can find here. In order to be eligible to obtain the rank of Major and above, leadership must complete this course run by the Judge Advocate General's Corps at any point after becoming a commissioned officer. Understanding that this is regulatory change that affects senior leadership, there is a grandfather period of 6 months for leaders holding the rank of Major and above to attend the course. Failure to complete the course in this time period will prevent further promotion for senior officers beyond their current rank.
