Pros:
  • Fast on the job learning for people that didnt know how to use the mortars Leanrned very quickly
  • Did a little bit of everything
  • Good mission concept would love a redux when people are more used to TFAR
  • Geki helpped Viking-5 and myself with comms when needed
  • Good use of Withdrawing not just endexing in place
Cons:
  • Buffalo used our sierra as a landing pad didnt end well
  • Security could be better
  • Long step off Should have stepped off to a forward staging zone
  • No map marks early on
  • Other squads need to call in more fire even even if it is just 3 Ds and we work out the rest
  • Laser guided M252 mortar rounds Still bugged :(

Pros:
  • Mission design seemed solid
  • Better performance with TFAR
Cons:

  • Mech Inf Op, understandably not Buffalo friendly (1) resupply (2) inserts in 120 minutes
  • Zero communication with 5, could be TFAR issue, but I had comms with other Viking elements
  • Lots of relearning key bindings for TFAR

Pros:
  • Always nice to see a Raptor slot.
Cons:

  • Radios failed for me just prior to first contact, which caused me to be unable to talk to anyone else either on interflight or general air net. I deemed this a critical failure and dropped out past the hour mark.

Pros:
  • TFAR stability contra ACRE
  • Great comms with LIGHTNING flight
  • Good effects on targets, some critical to safety of friendly forces
  • Nice to see Mission Makers unafraid of tasking lots of aircraft
  • Excellent initiative from Smith.DM to shadow the TACP party and listen in on the job! <3
Cons:
  • There really should've been an in-game pre-mission 30 minute on-server session to help people sort out the comms after such an abrupt transition to new mod.
  • I overflew friendlies again, apologies VIKING-2 :|
  • Would greatly prefer the larger and more square cTab over Android device for JTAC loadout - the narrow, squashed interface of Android is not conductive to JTAC work

Public Personnel Within Element:

Pros:
  • Overall good OP
  • Nice to see Viking operate more as scouts against a larger force.
  • Initial push through and contact engagements were solid.
Cons:
  • Our squad's OP was a bit exposed, we felt it would've been better situated at TAI 002 with the building's elevation and sight lines of the surroundings.
  • Initial step off was delayed due to comm issues as everyone got accustomed to TFAR (Growing pains, can't be helped)
  • Someone took my Javelin.

Pros:
  • The intent present in the OPORD was recognized tonight. Overall, the operation went well, and we executed the objective effectively.
  • Excellent initiative from SLs (creating additional routes, relaying ISR, SITREPs, and we even had a contact call).
  • The extra planning and coordination that went into the OPORD meant that even with rocky comms (see conns), the OP went well.
  • The concept for this one was excellent. All of the Cav Scouts that attended seemed satisfied with the mission profile, as it leaned more towards the scout mission profile than a traditional mechanized infantry operation.
Cons:
  • TFAR was rough. Lots of factors went into this, most of which were teething pains. CEOI is completely new, and it taking adjusting. Also, most of the battalion does not regularly utilize TacR for gameplay outside of occasional SPs. This means the primary means of practicing with this new mod wasn't utilized significantly before the OP.
  • The time before step-off (and most of the time for questions during the brief), traditionally used for leadership FRAGO and individual squad PCIs, was allocated to troubleshooting and learning TFAR. This led to a slower step-off time and a lack of initial direction for the platoon.
  • -5 hard crashed initially due to a TeamSpeak error (Dread.M also mentioned this). I am not sure what the cause of this error was, but we went through the entire operation without a PSG, and that workload was passed on to myself and the SLs to manage (had some folks pushing to the aviation net to coordinate with Buffalo, which I am incredibly thankful for). The way TFAR is set up means it was incredibly easy to become information and task saturated with radios.
The biggest takeaway, I feel, is that more training is needed with TFAR, and troopers need to spend time on TacR getting acquainted with this mod and the new CEOI. Would love to see this one redone once the above criteria are met.

Pros:
  • Raptors.
  • Lightnings.
  • Plenty of Fixed Wing slots (See above)
Cons:

  • Some teething issues with TFAR are evident, but are to be expected.
  • I made a wrong call to launch the CAP flight before the SEAD flight took off. In hindsight, it was the wrong decision and got me shot down over enemy territory.
  • Lack of things for Raptor to do throughout the op. There were a couple of enemy air assets at one point or another, and it's not something that can be blamed on the mission controllers as I am aware of how hard they work to balance and pay attention to every element.
  • I had to go before the AAR which I apologize for!
