COMBAT AFTER ACTION REPORT

Element Callsign: Bandit-7
Element Leader: SSG.Maco.D

Pros:

  • Good amount of people showed up.
  • Kit did not have any issues
  • Did a push with Atlas 1 to Bandit 4 since they mass cass across fire lines at huge risk to the team.
  • Atlas was on point throughout the op.
  • Quick and effective response to all calls
  • Readbacks from team leaders were good.

Cons:
  • SBF was placed 800m away from Main Platoon without any squad support or Medical support in line with PL-1 when Platoon was around 500m south of of PL-1
  • Troopers using wrong assigned weapons
  • Little squad management allowing squads to go to far from platoon.
  • Platoon plan was erratic and uneven tempo
  • Sector cover on exfil was very poor with troopers stood in a building.
  • No squad movement lines when assaulting either city/town which resulted in a clash of squads
  • For the numbers we had the medical amount was very low with no need of resupply
  • Scope of mission was too large for the size of players. (Could be a good 2 part mission or a 6 hour operation)

Pros:
  • Fun times had by members
  • Good communications in medical team
  • Good response times
  • No black tags in our care

Cons:
  • Not much to do
  • Arma bugs/Lag (e.g. Advanced Movement breaking)
  • Majority of medical teams had to leave before the end of OP
  • Radio silence from GUNSLINGER-7 for a least 45 min - 1 hr.

Element Callsign: Sparrow 1
Element Leader: Specialist Nate "Justicar" Thumper
Element Members: Captain Matthew "Retread" Dread

Pros:
  • No loss of air frames for Sparrow 1.
  • Hunter Killer work with Sparrow 2 allowed for Sparrow 1 to kill a 2K22 Tunguska.
  • Killed a second 2K22 Tunguska.
  • Killed some infantry, including man-pads
  • Got thwacked pretty good by a missile, but saved the air frame, and was able to return and land right near the base to repair the air frame.
  • Sparrow 2 went down due to low frames, the pilot was down in a forest and could not be reached, Sparrow 1 was able to conduct an extremely tight landing in the forest to extract the Sparrow 2 pilot.
Cons:
  • Proper radio calls, e.g., use of Bullseye, Auth Code, Check-in, Ground Brief, Situational Awareness, but these are things that just can be polished, nothing overly negative.
  • Lack of proper equipment to start with I think needs to be addressed, we have standard load outs but for some reason they aren't correct in Ops; this was fixed but it would be one less thing for Zeus to deal with.

COMBAT AFTER ACTION REPORT

Element Callsign: Bandit-5

Specialist Narramoor.A

Pros
  • Excellent work from Buffalo flight in facilitating reinserts, resupply and i am glad to say that they were almost constantly busy.
  • Excellent radio work despite the furlough period. I feel like comms were handled very well.
  • High density of AAA threats presented a unique combat environment. Coordinating landing sites balancing potential danger and proximity was a complex and engaging challenge. Great work from the mission maker for balancing the AA threat in this regard.
  • Great work from medics, fast dispatches and handling of patients ensured the platoon maintained momentum
Cons
  • I encountered a few strange glitches which hampered communication (ArmA issues, not ACRE issues)
  • Terrain was large, with a lot of ground to cover which hindered consolidation, Bandit-4 got separated.
  • Scope of the operation was too large for a typical operation window. Lots of different things could have augmented this, such as the use of motorised assets or artillery
  • Once Blue on blue incident in CQB

Pros:

  • Good maneuvers
  • Good squad comms

Cons:
  • Platoon plan relied too heavily on FRAGO
  • Scope of op was far too large for unit strength
  • Reinserts took way too long
  • Lack of plan lead to units and troopers unsure of what was going on

Pros:

  • Fun, creative and engaging operation.
  • Really enjoyed the challenge of operating in a high AA threat area with Sparrows. The placement of the threats was pretty intelligent in that we could fly low safely and in certain corridors. AA that could see everything would've ended this mission before it began.
  • Solid communication and coordination between all assets.

Cons:
  • Pilot starting gear required too much fidling with boxes and loadouts, a lot of missing gear and limited options.
  • Aircraft had to have resupply trucks spawned in.

Pros:
  • Great team to work with
  • Great comms within the squad
  • Great response time, no black tags while PTs under Atlas care
  • Kilometer run to support Bandit-4 through enemy controlled area was pretty fun
Cons:
  • Intermittent frame issues
  • Possible comms issues
  • Parts of platoon placed well out of support range of medical teams

Element Callsign: INFIDEL
Element Leader: Corporal Kastor.K

Element Members:

Pros:

  • Excellent scope and intensity of Operation, full of content for a good 4-6hrs chunk of gameplay. Should be revisited in further Ops, starting from PL1 and going into the city proper, with the assumption of destroyed enemy ZSUs and lingering MANPAD AAA threat.
  • Very good balance of the AAA threat itself, it forced adaptation and limits on our air assets, while at the same time not being overbearing. Very good job, Mission Maker!
  • Great communication and execution of tasks from SPARROW flight. Their Hunter/Killer antics versus the ZSUs were top notch and I will be recommending both crews for shinies.

Cons:
  • The operation was 2hr15m before ENDEX and we've barely scratched the AO. Ambitious planning and deliberate execution did not allow us to enjoy proper urban warfare. While the scope and ambition of the AO was excellent, this should have been divided into a mini-campaign of 2-3 Ops (Day1: landing and beach head until PL1 or PL2; Day2: taking the city proper; Day3: crossing the river, clearing the villages and industrial area and executing the QRF ambush / blocking action).

Pros:

  • Squad was stacked and worked well
  • good communications laterally and horizontally through squad and platoon
  • good chain of command
  • good medics
  • good call ups for movement

Cons:

  • alot of disorganization as a platoon
  • we took to long for the frago. (combine the consolidation with a radio order to shorten up the order)
  • op was too large of a scale, the objective itself was 4k of urban terrain with multiple kilometers of movement on foot
  • Plt would bunch up then extend
  • We had no arty suport and limited air support due to AA in the city
  • no adaptation in plans
  • saw picking up and using of enemy gear, this is against battalion SOP and General orders
  • saw non SOP gear albeit American gear, still out of battalion SOP
  • horrible blu on blu incident between bandit 1 and bandit 2 resultant in a near death of my troopers
  • plt was out of support range between eachother
  • really should have artillery available for us, weather it is a player controlled, zues controlled does not matter, it should be available for us

Warrant Officer 1 Villmarsson.L

Pros:

  • From my aviation perspective, this was one of the very best ops I've played. I agree with the others, would have been cool to split this up into 2-3 Ops due to the magnitude and scope of the OP. I agree and echo exactly what Kastor.K said above. Well done Mission Maker!
  • Extremely successful insertion of infantry forces.
  • Extremely successful hoist/hook CSAR when Sparrow little bird crashed. (well done Villmarsson.L.)
  • No BUFFALO FLIGHT losses of aircraft or crew.
  • 5 did an outstanding job.
Cons:
  • Would have preferred this mission broken into multiple AO's, campaign style as it was pretty grandiose in scope and scale. We should absolutely revisit this one so we can give it it's full glory.
