Pros:
  • Fun op
  • Lots of targets
  • OBJ 1 and OBJ 2 cleared and caches destroyed
  • Good support from ATLAS and all air assets
  • Starlight-8 did a great job managing all air and artillery assets
Cons:
  • Radio comms on Platoon Net could use improvement across the board with SPOTREPS, SITREPS, and contact reports. Location and activity were often missing in reports.
  • React to contact throughout the platoon could use improvement with actually taking cover and surviving as your first task in the RTC Drill.
  • Desync issues after landing at first LZ that caused delays

Pro:
Lots of contact
lots of medical
Good change to practice land nav
Enjoy the game era
With having 2 billeted medical members brings top level care.
saved a pilot from a crashed heli

Con:
lost medical kit in arsenal
couple people not staying with medics
After doing a air assult would of been nice to do a extract
The desync at the start led to a rough start

Pro:
  • Excellent communication within our ACFT and across all AVN C/S
  • Efficient flight planning by lead
  • Able to adapt to any changes to current tasks

Con:
  • Messy initial insert at start of OP (more co-ordination required for that, but other inserts were good)
  • Server issues at the start
  • Issue with UH1 hit box where any contact with the nose causes the aircraft to flip / explode
(Helmet cam from one insert here)

Pros
  • Very immersive and exciting operation. Our squad’s troopers loved the themed mission and their enjoyment fuelled 4 hours of attendance. We would love to see more ‘Nam ops.
  • This OP served as the first impressions for a couple of players, and they LOVED it.
  • Framerate dropped a bit around OBJ 2, red-light issues. Outside of these limited circumstances, the server had a fantastic performance.
  • FTLs performed their roles exceptionally and without fault.
Cons
  • We were mostly tasked as security and we were contact starved. Would’ve liked to have seen fireteams and patrols roll up on us to keep us on our toes.
  • SL got the squad lost after objective 1, caused 10-20 minutes of walking simulator time for the troopers.
  • Mismatch between 7CAV SOP and Vietnam equipment and doctrine. I.e. with radios. Troopers & I commented that they would like to have no short range radios enforced.
  • We took ineffective blue and blue from the air, but at the same time it was immersive and cool.
Lessons Learnt
  • SL needs to learn how to do Land nav at night in the jungle.
  • SL shouldn’t take a long range radio to act as contingent RTO, should focus on signals.
  • People would like to see no Short Range Radios to be enforced as a rule

Pros
  • Pre-Loaded Loadouts and they worked
  • Lots of action despite confusing movements
  • Lots of fun as a Recon Team
  • Comms were both good at moments but terrible at others
  • Echoed orders
  • Cool Vietnam Op
  • The LZ was kinda really sexy to have a pathfinder team actually set up the LZ
  • The sniper mortar pit that was taken just west of the primary LZ was a great fire fight
  • Obj 2 Cave fight

Cons
  • Pre loadouts were not entirely utilized therefore our squad critical equipment was not fulfilled completely
  • Squad roles not completely fulfilled, leading to missing critical equipment
  • We had more objectives to blow up than we had charges ( it wasn't as simple as 3 boxes of ammo)
  • 3 black tags (although they died in epic fire fights)
  • Unexpectedly long (love long ops but please warn about length of op before it starts)
  • Comms were both good at moments but terrible at others
  • We saw the evidence of Modern-Device-Dependency (MDD) a very serious cav medical condition that can be solved by taking away short range radios and blufor tracking from the maps and inventory system and creating a cav generation dependent on technology and map illiteracy.
  • Formation discipline was poor
  • RPGs were seen on troopers backs, even when asked to drop them some people kept them and infact back blasted leadership with them
  • Need practice on explosives ordinance training
  • At least for the recon team, we could have used at least an extra 15 minutes to get all our gear in order because of the mandatory load and critical equipment
  • We should have gave a more concise 6 line LZ to aviation
  • 2nd black tag we lost was due to getting stuck in the open, the fire team became stagnant at the base of an open field.
  • Plt tripped over each other specifically at RP 2
  • Plt definitely got lost on the way to ORP 1, reference the MDD condition stated above
  • At obj 1 there was a cave cleared out, and there was a cache there so massive it was impossible not to call it up, and it was not called up to plt about a cache so big it required 3 satchel charges and delayed retreat from the 1st obj
  • Obj 2 cave, we were not entirely clearing each hut and leaving enemy behind our flank

Pros:

Great PACE Plan followed by all.
Excellent comms with rotary assets and smooth transitions between transport & CAS.

Cons:

Shuffle flight was messy on the ground. I Need to work on precision of comms during lifts and number of seats available on each bird.

Pros
  • Fun theme, guys really enjoyed the roles given.
  • No radios
  • No casualties that went uncon, CLS was on point.
  • Machine Gun Teams really clicked by the halfway point and we were locking down enemy forces to allow CAS to be effective.
Cons
  • Better use of deconfliction tools, hard to see smokes in dense jungle, flares popping through the canopy of the trees work way better for both air and ground deconfliction
  • Once we initially had eyes on OBJ1, I made a critical error with my intent to hold the position (which was out of effective range of our weapon systems) in order to provide security and give Starlight-8 an OP to conduct air strikes. This directly conflicted with Platoon Leader's intent, and I slowed the Platoon down as my element was on point for the maneuver.
  • More SITREPs and ACE reports needed to be sent periodically from my element to allow pro-active resupply from Platoon HQ.
  • When Warrigal made their initial hasty attack and began being overrun, I should have maneuvered my squad to support first instead of requesting permission over the radio. By the time we got the confirmation to move, the WPN squad was out of place and was fighting an uphill and obscured enemy with zero visual on the friendlies we were attempting to support.
Lessons Learnt
  • SL should have given work to RTO and focused more on the squad, allowing the RTO to focus on sending up reports at his will
  • More usage of flares for friendly deconfliction
  • When on point, stick to the PL intent and only deviate from that intent if the movement puts the platoon at risk.
