Situation Overview
The BlueFor is in the Persian Gulf mainly because of the escalating danger to international oil shipping during the later years of the Iran–Iraq War. By the mid-1980s, the war between Iran and Iraq had evolved into what became known as the "Tanker War." Both countries attacked oil tankers and merchant ships in the Persian Gulf to damage each other's economies.
The strategic importance of the Gulf
The Persian Gulf is one of the world's most important oil shipping routes. A huge percentage of global petroleum exports passed through. The Persian Gulf and The Strait of Hormuz
The Bluefor fears that:
•Shipping disruptions could destabilize world oil markets
•Allied Gulf states could be threatened
•Soviet influence in the region might grow during the Cold War
Assessment
Kuwait has requested protection because its tankers are being attacked, especially by Iran. To legally justify BlueFor naval protection, several Kuwaiti tankers were reflagged as BlueFor ships. That meant attacks on them could be treated as attacks on BlueFor flagged vessels.
Recommendation
Mission: The Gulf deployment will showcase Bluefor carrier strike capability and maritime dominance during the late Cold War era.
Tasks:
•Offensive patrols against Redfor convoys Escort
•Air Combat Patrols
•Large scale exercise to maintain a high degree of readiness
