Foxhole - Interest Gathering

Greeting Troopers,

As the Cav continues to grow and expand, we have been approached by a group of enthusiastic and passionate members to consider Foxhole.

The 7th Cavalry takes pride in being a great place to be, focused on MILSIM through teamwork, communication and shared values. For those who don't know, Foxhole is home to an incredibly dedicated and passionate player-base - and in the last four weeks, troopers from the Cav have built up resources and a base of operations for the 7th Cav, attracting external interest in our community to the extent that a Starter Platoon may be viable.

A bit about the game for those unfamiliar:
  • Foxhole is a massively multiplayer game where you will work with hundreds of players to shape the outcome of a persistent online war.
  • Players ARE the content in this sandbox war game.
  • Every individual soldier is a player that contributes to the war effort through logistics, base building, reconnaissance, combat, and more.
  • At the front, it's a top-down shooter with a heavy focus on teamwork, tactics, and combined arms.
  • In the back lines, it's a grand military strategy and complex logistics sim. And a base-building tower defense game.
  • The hook is, in an ordinary game you'd be fighting for "point B" for no reason.
    • Here, you're trying to destroy a player-built base protecting a town you need to capture so you can create more weapons to advance further.
    • You're trying to ambush enemy logistics not because a quest giver told you to, but because the enemy can't fight without the goods in that truck rushing toward you, and the enemy player driving it knows that.
  • It's a sandbox MMO where you figure out what the quests are on your own, and they all really matter.
  • Nobody's choices are initially wrong, right, or maybe even optimal. None of that is clear until the dust has settled - encouraging violence of action
  • Foxhole wars last anywhere from 14 to 60 or more real-life days, and they end when one side defeats the enemy by taking enough territory in the form of victory points. When one war ends, there is a period of rest of anywhere from two to five days, at which point a new war is scheduled by the developers, allowing players to strategize before the war begins.
  • All built objects on the map, equipment collected, and factories set up are totally reset for the new war.

This post is intended on gathering the level of interest internally and externally upon which to make a case to launch or shelve the game.

We're currently exploring whether this title has enough traction and interest within the Cav to justify further evaluation, possible event nights, and maybe a formal detachment.

If you are interested, please fill out the survey below and give us your thoughts.

Foxhole Interest Survey

Open until 11OCT25 or until sufficient responses received.

This form is to gauge interest in new games that the DEVCOM department is looking at.
We will use these results in our research to determine, at a first glance, the potential viability of a game within the Cav based on how current members feel.
Thank you for taking the time to help us!

If enough interest is gathered, a proposal to launcha starter platoon will be sent to Regiment and those interested will be able to transfer to this new AO on approval.
Troopers interested in transferring to the starter platoon will need to file a PAF once the platoon is announced to be open for transfers.

The Wardens are counting on us to win the war, will you join us?
