Pros:
  • 24 hour public op!
  • Great support from S3 and S6 Staffs!
  • Fantastic server population, consistently averaging 30-50 at all hours, with highs of 70-80, anchored by great Cav member attendance!
  • The Liberation mission file and Vietnam era/SOG Prarie Fire DLC is fantastic fun!
  • Lots of Cav members stepped up to lead and provide a fun experience that showcased us to the public very well, so thank you!

Cons:
  • Some zones did not trigger correctly after completion
  • Multiple fsriendly fire incidents
  • Some public players and even some Cav members broke the Arma ROE, but MP's and game admins were always on top of it
  • Lots of desync in the beginning portion and some mission file start errors, but it was improved by mission file updates in the end due to dedicated support!

Pros:
Overall good warfare progression
Good working communications with artillery support asset
Decent warning other squads of outgoing IDF/DF rounds
Able to adapt to fluid situations

Cons:
At times disconnected from lead elements later during combat operations
Members and public teams later during the operations failure to heed warnings of outgoing fire in which resulted in team or individuals being injured
Progression of command break down led to situational ability to support rendered impotent.

Pros
  • Extremely fun and busy for Buffalo-3 with re-inserts, logistics/resupply, rearm, refuel.
  • This map is an absolutely dream for Air Assault, flew it twice and had an absolute blast both times.
  • Zero casualties had a few close calls and some damage from groundfire but didn't lose a single aircraft, crew or pax during 24hr op
  • Aviation teamwork, communication and coordination was excellent
  • Excellent Comms with Infidel, Ground and Air.
  • Raider and Buffalo elements noticed tunnels and concealed enemy positions from the air and talked ground elements onto which was extremely cool for us to get to do
  • Learned a lot about the aircraft capabilities, 6 paxs is ideal in a UH-1 slick but you can carry 11, 12 even 13 if your fuel tanks are low enough and you are careful about your route of approach, departure and keep translation or terminate your hover in ground effect.
  • Showcased the Cav extremely well as far as I was aware, very few issues considering the number of people involved
Cons
  • Repair/Refuel facilities took a while to get setup due to truck required to build those elements getting destroyed on initial lift we had a plan and got talked out of it by players who assured us it would be fine to do it their way. In the interest of trying to speed things up we took a chance but we should have stuck to our original plan, it was good to try but we learned a valuable lesson.
  • A second Cobra would have been nice to have to guard the numerous Buffalo elements and a valuable support asset to Infidel, as an option. Although its possible if we had a second Cobra 2x Raider elements would have cut the taskings in half. Hard to determine how many people you're going to have, how the taskings are going to unfold and as a result how much support you will need so not sure
  • Was injured twice by friendly fire, I think both times someone accidently let a frag grenade loose and almost killed me. The first time I was at the base with Hitman 6 and could just heal with scroll wheel, the second I was at FOB Alpha but a nearby medic saw me get injured and was Johnny on the spot administering aid which was lucky for me.

Pros:

  • Their were a multitude of medal worthy actions taken over the course of the 24 hours
  • Troopers who took my loadouts found they were able to resupply their grenider's M79, and MG M60, stay in the fight, and stay around 35 KG, which kept the squad running for a considerable amount of time
  • A particular trooper stood up as an SL and leader who never lead before and shinned brightly
  • Members of cav leadership were able to maintain a continuous momentum onto objectives.
  • Atlas, all of you kept this gunslinger running and up, weather it be medically or supply-wise, thank you
  • taking of the San Bay Ban Airstrip and then fob-ifying it was dope, and even cooler to defend every time we came under attack
  • we saved POW coots from a village and DIDNT FRAG HIM TO DEATH
  • The Battle of Bai Bien Dep Village, and its hill Bao Ve or "Hamburger Hill" was one of the most movie/memorable attacks and was a staunch representation of leadership in battle
  • After we lost platoon staff we kept the server moving and populated, folding infantry into 1 large squad for a while, then kept the momentum rolling and took an equal if not more territory than at the peak hours.
  • We took Hue City, then held it against a sizeable counter attack
  • We took the NVA Base Phok Ham, in of which we appropriately used an ORP, and leaders recon
  • Air Assaulting FSB Quan Loi while atlas 4 set up near by, then the push into the village of Gan Song was a memorable Air Assault jumping from 4 meters up out of the chopper then charging across no mans land under fire and taking the fob with only a +Squad was some real medal worthy actions
  • The road to Saigon, the incredible 3+ hours had us take The Village of Chu Chi and FOB 6; Ho Ngoc Tao most notably. During This time Gunslinger elements were Kinetic, able to seamlessly save two pilots During an assault on Chu Chi (see Katsu's video). Then continue the push onto the FOB where Gunslinger 3 and 1 conducted the equivalent of a Platoon attack (see Katsu's video from GS3/Atlas 1 perspective). From there we sustained Casualties while under IDF, continued to repel a counter attack while under IDF, then returned our own IDF using enemy 60mm mortars. During this 30 min FOB assault troopers were able to engage, raid, then leave the area under fire leaving it as secure as possible under control of atlas and Gunslinger 3 while 1st squad pushed to Saigon
  • Saigon...
  • We pushed Saigon with the same momentum we took Chu Chi and FOB 6, but once we hit into Saigon it was some of the most intense city fighting I had ever seen, once again the troopers that took on the initial assault showed Great, Impeccable, Extraordinary Courage in battle. All of whom should be receiving medals for their actions taken. During Saigon, the night time halted the assault to a crawl (literally) Troopers used the lightning, Artillery landing, and flares to see snippets of enemy. Troopers waited in the darkness and in silence as they would see a shadow pass by before the flares overhead revealed NVA charging them with bayonets; While in the darkness troopers waited in nail biting fear not knowing if an enemy HE would land on their heads and kill them all while listening to the enemy speaking, right behind the wall they were taking cover next to. Troopers that eventually secured Saigon after the operation stated that the city was decimated and the streets were littered with bodies both American and Vietnamese.

Cons:
  • Saigon...
  • The Assault on Saigon, Gunslinger-1 lost their radio communications devices in the HE shelling (Katsu's Video at 1:33:30). During the whole inital push Gunslinger-1 was in the blind to other operating units in the area. Pushing desperately to destroy the mortar position killing so many of us (and we killed them with our hands), and then trying hard to take out the AA sites killing our pilots. we worked solely on the actions and trust of other units in the area, hand signals, and Face-to-face communications. But due to just how bad the fighting was Gunslinger-1 ranks broke down to just a handful of people spread out and fighting in small clusters.
  • During the road to Saigon we had set up a resupply point in advance after taking FSB Quan Loi. Unfortunately due to low server pop and pre engaged logistics, we were unable to receive resupply and were stuck for some time defending a town with our backs to the water
  • We lost Hue City, for we did not have enough people to divert for defense.
  • When we took the NVA base Phok Ham, during our leaders recon, it seems our reconnaissance element was found and our plans had to change to a hasty assault rather than the deliberate plan we had in place.
  • Some Troopers would pack for themselves and not the squad as a whole, and so we would have weird weapons being used in which we had no ammo to resupply them with
  • Unfortunately I did not set up a full squad or fire teams kit in the arsenal, and only had an M79, an FTL, and an RTO kit to give out in public, although those who picked the kits were able to operate well, I was unable to give other roles in my squad a kit that could assist their fellow squad mate
  • We need to work on staying within mutual support range as Fire Teams
  • Keep your plans of attack simple, Keep. It. Simple. Stupid. Im talking real simple. We had plans that were although simple, not simple enough to survive losing radio comms with a squad and still have all parties involved still know what to do and where to go.

SL Remarks:
  • Things learned for myself, Nam really highlights why you make and fully explain a plan, why all FTL's and Up know that plan, and you really need to keep that plan as simple as battle drills.
  • Lots of calls were made that I wasn't so proud of but were needed in battle, such as determining 3 men dead as they bled out en order to complete the mission and save the rest of the platoon by taking out the mortars
  • Jungles highlight why soldiers in the war carried 10 grenades, and 22-24 mags back in 1966-1970.
  • Jungles highlight why in Vietnam soldiers all carried a 100 rnd box for the M60, this is why all roles that I made in my squad carried that same ammo plus 10 rnds of M79 HE rounds
  • jungles highlight why we do leaders recon and not just map recon to make a plan of attack
  • there were at least 3 moments where I was unable to break contact due to some kind of machine gun, arty, or overwhelming force and had to push into the enemy en-order to break contact with the enemy. It came at a cost and I still dont know if it was the right calls to deny Gunslinger 6's orders.

Pro's:
  • Fun op. Lot's of work to do. Some challenging mass-cass.
  • Stayed mobile to keep people in the fight.
  • Atlast 4 had a few hairy but vital resupply runs that saved the day.

Con's:
  • The rain/thunderstorm near the end caused a lot of client side molasses making it hard to aim where a need to aim quickly was important.
  • Comms seemed to have broken down somewhat over night.
  • Friendly stepped in front of my gun (but I patched him up >.>)
  • Lot of people just sat there bleeding at a CCP and waiting for someone else to patch them up instead of doing self care which caused some strain on Atlas resources. Same for people who didn't tend to their wounds at all. Saline is a luxury.
  • Few issues popped up on the medical system that I've not seen before:
    • Some people were almost completely fine but uncon yet still somehow died before they woke up.
    • Had at least 1 case where applying a bandage actually created new wounds ( )
    • Had at least 1 case where all the stats were good but we just couldn't start the heart back up, although this might be by design somehow.

Pros:
  • An amazingly fun Operation, with lots to do and things to explore.
  • Good coordination with infantry units advancing into various towns and across bridges.
  • Provided security for ATLAS elements running supply runs to maintain the base and make sure we had the necessary equipment.
  • Got some familiarity with the M41A3 Walker Bulldog Light Tank.
  • Easy to maneuver in open areas, and carries a lot of ammunition.
  • Beautiful interior design with mechanics and animation.
  • Lack of technological instruments and reliance on old fashioned tools made some aspects of engagement difficult, but it was fun to do things the old fashioned way.
  • Infantry were well coordinated with moving with the tank and taking cover behind it as it moved, as well as clearing away from the main cannon when firing.
  • Got lots of cool snaps!
  • Killed two NVA soldiers with a wrench and proceeded to go on a rambo killing spree when I was cut off and alone.

Cons:
  • Limited amount of maneuvering room and thick jungle vegetation made maneuvering difficult in densely clustered areas.
  • Turning out of the tank as the Tank Commander disconnected you from the radio.
  • Lack of ACE compatibility meant that field repairs could not be conducted, leaving Zeus to have to repair the tank.
  • The cost to build tanks were quite high, meaning one could only be brought out every few hours or more.
  • Navigation and map readings caused temporary halts, during which the enemy could have easily overwhelmed us.
  • Limited infantry comms and lack of coordination as to where the tank could move during an assault on the city of Hue made the tank fall off a cliff and blow up, leading to finger pointing as to who's fault it was.

  • Good coordination with squadmates to focus fire on intended enemy targets in hiding
  • Outstanding usage of formations, callouts, and maneuvering, cycling Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie fireteams out to keep everyone fresh in the fight.
  • Very minimal casualties were sustained, and medics were able to keep everyone well patched up and stabilized.
  • BUFFALO inserts were well coordinated and somewhat stable. Lack of clear LZ's made some landings difficult.
  • Enemy traps, hiding places and ambushes made the experience authentic and fun for everyone.
  • Found a wounded civilian in a village after a firefight and managed to treat him and heal him after he nearly bled out. Good humanitarian deeds.
  • Civilian presence was always taken into account, and all POW's were respected.
  • Everyone had a good time and enjoyed the DLC and all of it's content.


Cons:
  • Lack of squad held radios for each individual member got some troopers lost and killed outright when they got disoriented.
  • Friendly fire incidents were frequent, owing to the lack of squad radar and radios caused frequent problems during firefights. Thankfully there were no recorded fatalities (At least that I was aware of)
  • POW's were not taken back to base for interrogation or information gathering as was intended, leading to squads being filled with POW's that couldn't be unpaired.
  • Lack of vehicles for transport and for carrying troops from one objective to another led to a slow combat pace.
  • Traps were frequently stumbled upon and caused numerous injuries despite constant warning.
  • Night fighting was extremely difficult without NVG's (Which weren't invented at the time naturally) or any night fighting equipment, leading to many instances of friendly fire.
  • Latency in some portions of the operation.
  • Map required a reset a few times but this made re-consolidation a lot easier for squad leaders.

Pros:

  • First time SLing, had a wonderful time learned a lot in those 12 hours.
  • First 24 hour, thus was able to work with the same people in my section for multiple hours, great team building.
  • Had 14 under my command at one point. All followed orders while at the same time had the initiative to adapt and overcome.
  • Overall, seemed like people were having a great time during the OP.
  • Great teamwork between the different sections.
  • Any issues that came up were quickly sorted by Corporal Gann.T, and Corporal Burton.P after they switched.

Cons:

  • For a while, our section was told to hold at our point on the map and wait to assault, then was repeatedly left behind by other sections that pushed in. To the point of us not taking any meaningful contact for a couple of hours. Unfortunately, this raised a few hairs in the section but was quickly resolved once brought up through the COC.
  • Had 2xPOW's stuck in my section that died but we were unable to remove them or heal them, so they stuck around for several hours in our section.
  • Need more 24hr OPS, was fun as all hell.
  • Due to me suddenly being picked from the crowd to SL, I was not made aware of the fact that I needed to track who was in my section, that I needed photos/videos until hours after the OP when it was mentioned that I needed to do an AAR. So for that, my apologies, will not happen again.
