Pros:
  • Playing reforger is a nice change of pace, game looks a lot nicer, performs a lot better, etc.
Cons:
  • Radio glitches and issues
  • Operation was geared towards how we do things in A3. Reforger is almost an entirely different game and trying to play in the usual way feels clunky/forced/unsatisfying
  • Conflict gamemode with an 'organized chaos' style of gameplay would gel a lot better with reforger and would be my recommendation for next time.

Element Callsign: Buffalo Flight
Element Leader:
First Lieutenant Thumper.N (Raven-1 Pilot)

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:
Corporal Davis.D (Raven-1 Co-Pilot)

Pros:
  • A lot of work to do.
  • Multiple hot LZ inserts; took a lot of fire, but never lost a ship or packs.
Cons:
  • Keyboard only controls for the helicopter, no joystick, or HOTAS support in the game at all.
    • Game seems geared toward consoles rather than PC.
    • Helicopter update was recently dropped but without any flight peripheral support.
  • Basic training in the Cav was ignored, e.g. Basic Air Assault, people seemed to come into this Operation as a run and gun public play and not an official operation within the Cav.
  • Packs in the aircraft tried giving LZs to the flight crew, these were Cav members, which makes no sense because the standard has always been "Callsign-5" coordinates LZ/Reinserts, and if not "Callsign-6" does it, and then through the succession of command; no reason for packs to give LZs.
  • Packs in the aircraft were "back seat piloting", winged pilots train hard to earn their wings, and having passengers try to tell you how to fly is just not a good look.
  • Reforger seems more like Squad than Arma 3.
  • Was told in the AAR that the flying issue was a "skill issue", without consideration that Arma Rotary flies advanced flight model with joysticks and HOTAS, yet Reforger is closer basic flight model (not exact) with keyboard flight controls only; two completely different worlds.

Pros:
  • It was a good change of pace, and visually satisfying to say the least.
  • Outside of radio glitches and known bugs, comms from leadership elements were proactive, clear, and concise.
  • Good first step, plenty of opportunity moving forward to take feedback and make incremental improvements.
  • Had ~50 players for the operation, several public players including console. Join the Cav!
Cons:
  • Radio glitches.
  • SA is extremely challenging for a Platoon level operation. Not that it was done purposefully, but certain elements became over-extended and outside of the mutual support range.
  • The "CTAB" is pretty clunky and must be used in full-screen mode for positive use, outside of that it just takes up inventory space.
Comments:
  • If we're going for current state operations we would need things like shack-tack, the ability to point, and squad size (currently at 6).
  • The ability to have two-way communication is limited. Needing an RTO is not the way to move forward. My understanding is there are MODs out there. In the current state, taking the Radio backpack extremely limits one's inventory capacity, which is already pretty limited.
  • I have, after discussion with several engaged troopers at leadership levels, feedback and ideas on moving forward that could make this successful. Could prepare us in 1-7 for a smoother transition into ARMA 4 if we do it right. Consider Reforger as a stepping stone in that transition.

Pros:
  • Arma Reforger provides an opportunity to really develop our basic infantry skills and get away from the overtly advanced mechanics we are use to in Arma 3. Shifting us to a more realistic feel for the ground combat, requiring us to pay better attention to the environment and not a tracker that simply does it for us.
  • Largely engaging system to keep all members of the team I was with active in a role.
  • The dedication to the operation development and execution by the Zeus and 6 was very visible and appreciated.
Cons:
  • Radio usage and set up needs work. We need to push nets for Logistical, Air to Ground, Platoon wide and ensure they are managed appropriately.
  • A good deal of Cav members treated the op more like a run and gun and deviated away from our training. We need to keep the basics in mind when we go forward into the op.
  • Conflict game mode would be an excellent means for practice to ensure members get time to learn the mechanics and train in an active environment.
  • ACE should be active on the server and updated as they progress through it's development.

Pros:
  • Definitely a good platform for infantry combat, and will hopefully be more flushed out in the future
  • Radio communication was good about keeping the squads informed of what is going on around them

Cons:
  • Lack of a Advanced Medical system, all troopers being able to treat all injuries made Atlas 1 almost next to useless as a medical squad, as well as the downed state was a very short timer which could have a trooper back on their feet in under a minute resulting atlas arriving on scene to the trooper already treated and back in the fight
  • Ace Medical being implemented would most surly help with flushing out the functionality of a Atlas Unit

Note: I was not the SL and I cannot remember if this is everyone or not. Please DM me if you were missed.

Pros:
  • Fun operation! Would love to do another soon.
  • No FF in our section, situational awareness by the SL was good.
  • The kits were good and sustained the squad well! Would love to see an AR kit with the potential to have an optic/laser from the modding community.
  • Good leadership.

Cons:
  • The weight didn't seem to affect troopers.
  • No fire teams were assigned.
  • Sticking to the basics of our training is important, however, we also didn't have an SL from the 7Cav.
