Given the size and diversity of the Cav, I can imagine there may be some folks who are looking for comradery that also comes in the form of spiritual growth and community with other believers of their faith. Religion and Politics are two big things the Cav says not to engage in conversation about, but I think a Chaplain Corps may be a great addition to the Cav, providing a safe space where discussions can be had, prayer requests can be made, and when the Regimental Motto for emergencies is used (I don't want to type the full name in the case that generates alerts) chaplains can be contacted or offer to console anyone who is asking for them. I see it as a way to provide emotional support to members in ways perhaps they really need and were too afraid to ask, since as far as I can see there is no such group designated in the Cav, and as I said before, conversation of religion is avoided per the rules.

The Chaplain Corps would need representatives of various religions to organize special events, meetings, or services with willing participants. Chaplain Corps events should be posted where anyone who would like to can see and join, and anyone who would rather not see or be invited can simply ignore. I really just think something like this would add to the brotherhood that is 7 Cav, and I see it as an opportunity to do a lot of good for its members.

Just thought I would share this and see what folks had to say. Has this been done before?

I don't think its been done but I think its a really good idea. Not sure how that would work within the Cav but definitely worth the conversation in the very least.

I swear this topic comes up every other year.

I think Chance.JT said it best once. We’re a brotherhood, not a support service. We do not discuss politics or religion for very good reason, because it’s divisive.

Any member of the Chain of Command worth their salt would refer a brother in need of help to one of the many organisations in their home country or state who specialise in providing that support. The Cav should not employ counsellors or chaplains when these services are abundant in our daily lives.

I do not disagree that there would be benefit, but we have seen, time and again, the risks that come with this sort of role/responsibility.

Those of you who remember Pastor (Australian guy, went by DeepNMeaningful on Steam for a while) know that no matter how well presented a supportive presence appears to be, you simply cannot account for those people taking advantage of those who come to them for support.

Whilst I sincerely do not want to be the guy who dampens your enthusiasm or contributions which are honestly incredibly valued Brother, I’m afraid it is a strong “No” from me based on 10 years of being in and around the Cav. The brotherhood is enough.

Yeah this pretty much sums it up. This topic comes up a out once every year. It's just not something that's for the Cav. If I was not at work I would go into more detail and I believe a higher up will most likely comment on this. I understand it comes from a good place though.

This last sentence cannot be overstated. He’s absolutely right.

Honestly this is exactly what I wanted to hear. I am pretty new to the inner workings of the Cav and something like this is great insight into the feelings of Chain of Command and those who would have a say. Thank you for this!

Thank you as well for your input!
I appreciate the insight.
I think what you Collins said is very true regarding whether or not it would work, and I hadn't considered the possibility of abuse in either direction.

Thank you both!

I’m really pleased you’re seeking our ways to improve the Cav. Keep applying that creativity in pursuit of improving the membership experience and I’m sure you’ll find the right outlet :) Keep it up Brother

I agree with Collins, Beta.P. And don't be disheartened. Just because we don't have a chaplain corps doesn't mean you (or anyone else) can't be there for our brothers and sisters in the yellow and black. We are, after all, a brotherhood, and the cornerstone of that brotherhood is the quality of our members and the fact that we do everything we possibly can, both collectively and individually, to have each others' backs.

I think everything was answered very well and nothing more is needed to be added from General Staff. Thank you, all! :cavdab:
