COMBAT AFTER ACTION REPORT
Campaign of Combat Mission: Tactical Tuesday - Operation Blind Rhino
Number Within Campaign: 2
Game: DCS
Server Hosted on: =7Cav= Tactical Realism 1 | SRS Req | Fox3ms.com V3-18
Date of Combat Mission: 09MAY23
Time of Combat Mission (Zulu): 2100 EST
Mission Controller: Chief Warrant Officer 3 Baruch.J
Mission Summary:
A few days ago, Bluefor had cleared all hostile elements located at or near Beslan, and were able to deploy a large number of AH-64s, A-10s and AV-8 Harriers to press the attack at Mozdok, where several SAM Sites were located.
Complimenting this force, was a large CAP Package that was set to defend a wide airspace, while the CAS Package cleared the Mozdok region. A task, which had to be completed quickly as redfor had several convoys rushing to Mozdok to reinforce the small force that had remained there.
Finally Redfor had also deployed a carrier that was weakly defended, and seeing the opportunity, Bluefor put together a small flight to quickly engage and destroy it.
Challenge Rolls:
None
Pros:
- Good Comms (CAS Flight) between the Rotary element and the A-10s/Av-8B Harriers
- The mission was very large in scope. And generally those that participated enjoyed themselves
- We had a fantastic number of people show up for the mission
Cons:
- The mission was very large in scope. While that was not a negative, it would have benefitted from additional support staff
- Anti-Ship flight would have benefitted from improved comms between their flight and the CAP/GCI
- There were some moments where people were stepping on each other whilst on comms
- Server was very laggy. Unknown what the cause for this is. Speculations include (Number of moving ground vehicles and/or the number of air assets in the air)
Additional Notes:
- Encourage the use of secondary frequencies for intra flight comms. This can be further facilitated by manually setting up secondary channels for all flights
- Encourage CAP Flights to sit on the deck for some time, and then cycle then into the air. So as to ensure, there are always CAP flights in the air
- Ensure that airbases have some degree of air defenses
- When pushing non cap flights forward to perform their tasking. Ensure they have sufficient CAP Cover, or if time sensitive, provide them with proper situational awareness updates
- During Briefing - Further highlight the purpose of each way point assigned to each flight.
- More work needs to be done in encouraging public players to join us on comms.
- Review the effectiveness of TALDs
