Pros: Great job by OIC, great job by Mission Controller. Very responsive. Very fun. Lots of action and lots of AAA to evade. Would absolutely want to do another similar op.

Cons: Would have liked more radiomen. More colours of friendly smoke would have been good to mark friendly positions. The red air modules (stukas/paratroopers) disappeared before we could go kill them.

Pros:

  • Amazing OP
  • Everyone had a ton of fun
  • Medics had plenty of work throughout the whole operation
  • Good practice on land navigation
  • We felt pretty effective for a 4 man supporting half a company.
Cons:
  • 1 hour unfortunate slow start
  • One CCP position was not ideal as it was placed on an alley.
  • Had a occasion were a full squad was zeus healed while under care, which made atlas personnel wonder "why are we here?"
  • Medical perms problem on one troop, to be fair it got fixed quick
  • Lots of blue on blue

Element Callsign: Juno-3
Element Leader: Corporal Phillips.B

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:

Pros:
  • Solid Contact
    • Good positioning allowed for effective fire
    • Magnified optics contributed heavily to contact engagement
  • Mission Concept
    • Time Period!!!!!
    • Glider entry unique
  • Operation Length
    • Allows more time to complete more/varied objectives
    • Was on longer side but wasn't too bad given the scale of mission and start issues
  • Mission Accomplished

Cons:
  • Rocky Start
    • Perhaps more troubleshooting prior?
  • Ineffective Communication (All Levels)
    • Lack of radiomen/equipment
    • PACE plan ineffective due to flare visibility and longevity
  • Platoon-Level Planning
    • Significant Squad-Level improvisation
    • Exacerbated other issues and thickened fog of war
  • Blue-on-Blue
    • Fratricide was effective and often

Staff Sergeant Couvillion.T

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:

Pros:
  • WW2
  • Squad level aggression.
  • Momentum overall was good.
  • OP Length was enjoyed by the squad.
  • Very well put together operation/mission plan by Mission Maker and OIC.

Cons:
  • Poor communications. A lot of improvisation had to happen to take objectives and most of the time a runner couldn't be spared. Radios for SLs would have amended this.
  • Scope - Very extensive and large AO's compared to a reinforced platoon. There isn't a way to amend this issue due to simply not having enough participation.
  • Convoluted COC - In this situation having a longer chain of command only caused delays with certain movements and reactions. It took away the agency of certain platoon level elements.

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element: None

    Pros:
    • Nice to try out 5
    • Operation design fantastic
    Cons:
    • Communications were a bit of a nightmare leading to 5 mostly being a runner rather than having any meaningful leadership impact. This could have been alleviated by either having platoon staff and SLs have their own batmans/radios. I understand that this might have diminished the realism but we are a modern Milsim unit that is highly dependent on radios for all of the tactics we teach.
    • Blue on blue was the worst I have seen in my time in the cav. I think it would be a mistake to focus only on the lack of radios causing this. It was exacerbated by two other factors:
      • (a) The map was underutilized as a means of communication. Squads were not given clear guidance about their lanes when clearing towns. This lead to squads crossing over each other during the assault and then becoming confused about the probable location of the other squads.
      • (b) Individual troopers being sloppy with their PID.

Pros:
  • Excellent OPORD.
    • This was an element for me that provided a fantastic immersion, both from the length of the operation and the length of the OPORD.
    • This operation, I can tell, has been a labor of love for a lot of the people involved.
  • Repair permissions were given to the crew of the vehicles.
    • Although most of our interactions with anti-armor ended in our vehicle being completely destroyed, this should be a thing that is standardized throughout all the operations in the Cav. Just partial repairs, not full repairs.
    • Should be given to the driver role, not the gunner role.
  • The crew had an excellent time, both with the change of pace, and the change of scenery.
Cons:
  • PID was very difficult.
    • Although this is era-appropriate, we seemed to have so much difficulty with this, especially in urban areas, that a lot of blue-on-blue fires were conducted.
    • This was mentioned as well for a lot of other elements.
  • The main gun of the Stewart did not work.
    • After a while in the OP, we were given a Stewart where the main gun did not work properly. Either due to user error by us not knowing (we tried all the tricks we knew), or by mod error.
  • Recon armor should have two radios.
    • We can't turn out and conduct hand signals.
