Pros:
  • Fun op for the short planning time
  • Got 3 POWs with Gun 3

Cons:
  • Really no need for 6R on our ops any more as we only have 2-3 squads.
  • Weird building demo wiped out all of Gun-3
  • Had to kill the 3 POW since they tried to steal the ambulance
  • Comms were a bit messy
  • My driving…..so we need a drivers ed course.

Pros:
  • Captured 3 POWS
  • The team was highly effective
  • Team took out 2x Typhoons
  • Great internal communication with Alpha, Bravo and having Helios also assigned with me
  • Civilians became armed and started firing at us. It threw us off for a second but it was super dynamic.
  • I had absolute killers in my section, shout out to 3/7 for coming along and joining us.
Cons:
  • A building collapsed on top of half of G-3, Unsure of what set it off. We had destructible items inside the building, they may of been damaged.
  • Sometimes it was chaotic having 3 Teams under me + platoon and conjoining elements, I tried to communicate as much as possible.
  • Radio Freq went weird, I was transmitting at the end but could not hear coms back.
  • Bandit roll did not have a 4, so we had to shift to gunslinger.

Sustains:
  • SBF positions were fantastic for supporting assaulting element, with good eyes on the entire town, the objectives, all AOIs, and the FOBs.
  • Able to do a lot of work with the MG338s. Machine gun fires were very effective at long ranges. MAAWS rounds were used to good effect against infantry and vehicle targets.
  • Gun Teams were highly communicative with one another, managing total round counts and calling out detailed contact reports.
  • Great set of objectives on a good map. Nice change of pace for the map!
  • Super appreciative of the guys putting on a mission and picking up OIC on short notice.
  • Sustainment was never a problem and we always felt like we had a hefty amount of rounds to accomplish our tasks with. Having our vehicles loaded for bear and being able to bring them up behind the platoon's formation was a really good solution.
  • Gun 3 had rear security on lock. Not the most glamorous job but extremely high priority and much-appreciated.
  • Multiple public players with us tonight and they had an absolute blast. One of them even ran a Gun Team and did great doing so. Super environment for recruiting!
  • Everybody had a lot of fun up on the ridgelines laying hate!
Improves:
  • Initial OPORD specified three squads on assault, leaving no security element for the SBF element or the platoon as a whole. While we only filled two squads at step, this was something of an oversight.
  • Due to less squads than intended at step, there was some confusion with who was doing what down in the objective. It would be a good idea to evaluate current numbers just before step and reconfirm tasking, i.e. "3, you're picking up 2's tasking since we don't have them. Need you to do X".
  • Had some problems with orders given that would put us way out of mutual support and too close to uncleared positions/hostile positions. Had to do some self-correction for safety of the squad.
  • Console view distance limitations severely impacted our ability to operate as an effective weapons squad. While we were able to guide our machine gunners on target, the two we had were console players unable to see any targets. With us adopting the NGSW platform, especially the MG338, it's critical we can get everybody able to see targets at the extreme distances these systems are rated for.
Notes:
  • We tested having each Machine Gun team be made up of three (adding an Ammo Bearer). It definitely allowed us to haul more rounds up those ridgelines but another suggestion was made to run it as three 2-man MG teams. This would require a good understanding of talking guns with three MG338s to use the squad's round count effectively but sounds like an exciting prospect.
  • MG338s are proving to be an excellent solution for defeating BTRs. We're able to hold our MAAWS rounds for the heavier targets. Would love to see more tanks in the field though instead of K17s and Typhoons to that end.
