Overview
The overall security situation in Mogadishu remains complex and unstable. While counter-insurgency operations targeting senior Al-Shabaab leadership continue, localized political friction between government security forces and opposition-aligned factions in Mogadishu has heightened political-security tensions in key neighborhoods. Due to the recent developments in the Turkish Embassy, the assassination attempts on Cemalettin Kani Torun, leading to the murder of Sinan Yilmaz, there has been issued a general curfew.
7th Cavalry is deployed to the region to provide assistance to the Somali National Army (SNA) and African Union (AUSSOM), maintaining checkpoints and perimeter defence; and secure key supply corridors.
