Pros:
Good call outs for medics when needed.
Overall great communication by everyone.
No black tags in medics care.

Cons:
Not a lot of the medics to do. I would suggest sending the medics to treat civilians or AI troops in a Green security area if this happens and let the choice be made by the OIC and what they see going on.

Pros:
  • Troopers enjoyed the different style of op. Great change of pace and interesting scenarios
  • Great intra-squad comms
  • Managed the checkpoint well. Had good PID and used proper escalation of force
  • Attached Helios team was able to provide all of the building and resupply needs we had.
  • Banshee provided excellent overwatch for our position
  • Squad reacted well to one tricky situation involving a van full of opfor and car with civi turned opfor
Cons:
  • Too many elements on squad net, difficult to manage all of the chatter. Need to find a better way to manage task force in south.
  • PLT was overly busy with repeated callouts on contacts that were coming in. Hard to get contact reports or spotreps in
  • Lapse in defenses led to losing entire Bravo fire team to VBIED
  • Steel clearance felt odd and like we were overextended. Took us a long time to do and was receiving many sitrep requests from 6 during this time.

Pros:
  • Overall great op and communication with everyone.
Cons:
  • Suffered 1x Black Tag once established on the west side of the Euphrates River.
  • Helios was unable to resupply Banshee with the correct ammo box for the coaxial (dev issue).

Pros:
  • Excellent preparations led to major mission success
  • Allowing a Helios and Medical team to be assigned to each bandit element eliminated a lot of platoon chatter to designate assignments

Cons:
- First time operating as a 5, more so need to learn and better understand the role to help further support 6 & platoon elements

Pros:
  • Great communication from different Bandit units.
  • Troopers enjoyed the different style of operation.
  • Utilization of Helios was of great assistance for building of checkpoints.
  • Reaction and transition to different type of contact (civilian or hostile) forced troopers to think before reacting
Cons:
  • Squad net had to much communication and was difficult to get information from one Bandit unit to another or higher.
  • Bandit 2 was in need of more troopers. Working one checkpoint with one fireteam was difficult but manageable.

Actions:

Task force followed the plan including all phasing. Mission was accomplished 100% including commander's intent and all key tasks.

Thanks to the Game Masters and all the troopers who showed up to the op.

Pros: (sustains)
  • Mission accomplished 100%.
  • Excellent questions during briefing stage
  • Excellent battle position creation and occupation, including defense in depth. No hostiles penetrated.
  • Excellent checkpoint creation, helios killed.
  • Excellent checkpoint operation including closing checkpoints when needed, discerning humanitarian v hostile. 6x humanitarian vics passed through safely.
  • Provided medical care to civilian injured during warning shot ricochet
  • Great awareness of incoming traffic
  • Great overwatch by Banshee element IVO checkpoint 3.
  • Rehearsals earlier in the week made for excellent SOP for VCPs including escalation of force.
Cons: (improves)
  • better tasking for recon element, (farther forward), perhaps different comms plan / attach their nets to checkpoints, etc. More recce missions needed to really understand how to integrate the elements well.
  • 2x civilian casualties
Open questions for me as a leader (previously titled "The Jury is out")

My intention with this section: I am including open questions that I am asking myself in the spirit of transparency in for continual improvement, not to invalidate or short-change the feedback offered in good faith.
  • Some leadership felt there was too much platoon net traffic, particularly from myself (6) repeating spotreps and calling spotreps as I saw them, and requesting sitreps before contact had concluded. I'll consider whether this is something I want to change on my part, when acting as 6. On the one hand, section leaders may not feel there is enough of a "gap" to send their traffic. On the other hand, the collective situation is understood without ambiguity by all on the net. I know when I am acting as a section leader, sending a spotrep and hearing no reply creates ambiguity - did they hear it? did they understand it? In my experience, repeating sent traffic creates cohesion on the net, which in my opinion is good. I may experiment with leaving more gaps / waiting for others to make their spotreps to see if the result is better. In this case, during this op, the mission was accomplished with an extremely high level of success, and 90- 95% of vehicles called on the net before making direct fire or physical contact with the VCPs. So the jury is out: aka: it is not clear to me whether this technique of control hurt mission success.
  • However, ultimately this is a question for me of what good Control means (Command and Control). Does the frequency of communication and requests from me, while increasing control and my operational picture, decrease individual agency of the units, and slow down their ability to send their reports up, and in essence, fulfill their role? If this is the case, the cost may be higher than is acceptable.
Thanks to the units for their honest feedback, I'll take it to heart.

Pros:
  • Interesting mission concept tonight, forcing the PID of targets and following the use of ROE and escalation of force.
  • Helios did a great job in building up or vehicle checkpoint, to the point it was too much.
  • Great teamwork from the squad, light on numbers to identify and engage appropriately.
  • Squad suffered no blacktags during the operation.
Cons:
  • PLT net was hard at moments to deliver troops in contact calls or provide sitrep/spotreps.
  • Already discussed with the helios element but there buildup isolated my security truck making the break contact difficult and having to drive back through the checkpoint.

Pros:
  • Enjoyed doing some recon
  • Fun operation with lots of combat
  • Great comms from my squad
Cons:
  1. Recon wasn't able to provide proper recon because, when we would see something 6 would ether call it out or it would already be at the checkpoint. I recommend putting recon further up than just 100 yards from the checkpoints.
  2. Didn't give us enough time to prepare, we needed to prepare fallback points etc. but with how long the briefing took that took our time to plan along side doing our PCCs PCIs.

Private First Class Miranda.M
Specialist Tremblay.J
Master Sergeant Zimm.L(No OP Credit)
Pros:
  • Great job integrating Helios elements into squads checkpoints and giving the setup requested and keeping troopers supplied and fortifications built up.
  • Great communication between myself as actual and the two other Helios battle buddy pairs. Never was unable to reach one or another and always checking in on how checkpoints were going.
  • Was able to utilize one mortar pit to react as counter battery to enemy positioned mortar team with good effect and kill on target.
  • Never felt like the work load was more than we could handle both in battle buddy teams and myself being the only engineer on the north checkpoint.
  • Great OP overall, this one felt more centered around the engineers as a change seeing how the whole purpose and functionality of them relied heavily on the engineers doing their part and showcasing the versatility we over and flex between assault or support roles.

Cons:
  • Felt like a little more could've been thrown in as curveballs to raise the stress and risk factors, example being a civilian getting a shakedown and search while at the same time react to contact and mixing up a little more the type of contact we received.
  • Had an issue rearming the MK19HMMVW as it wasn't in the arsenal box or available from the super beavers we were running, had to improvise with other vehicle spawns to grab the correct ammo boxes.
