Roles and Responsibilities
- The Stryker Infantry Platoon
-
The Stryker Platoon is a fighting force with the main responsibility to conduct direct action against enemy forces using close combat maneuvers and indirect fires. The Stryker Platoon is entirely organic and can switch between a wide range of missions while being entirely self-sufficient in combat operations. This means that the individual soldiers within the platoon must be extremely proficient in their duties and responsibilities AND can perform the roles of others if the platoon is shorthanded. The Stryker Platoon functions the following sub-units:
-A Platoon HQ - consisting of a Platoon Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Medic, and any Troop or Squadron/Battalion Attachments.
-Three Stryker Infantry Squads - consisting of a Squad Leader and two identical Fire Teams - each consisting of a Team Leader, Automatic Rifleman, Grenadier, and Rifleman.
-A Weapons Squad supports the Platoon, with a primary focus on the 60mm M224 and 81mm M252 Mortar, but they can also use the BGM-71 TOW for added AT capability for the Platoon if necessary.
-Six M1296 Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle - Dragoons (ICV-D) that are available to the platoon. Each M1296 is operated by a Driver and a Vehicle Commander that also fulfills the role of the gunner. The ICV-D's can operate as an attachment to individual squads or as sections/teams as vehicular units in formation once the infantry has dismounted. The ICV-D's provide exceptional capability to the platoon that overmatch and outgun standard light infantry units.
In short, the Stryker Platoon is entirely focused on dealing with peer threats as well as pushing the envelope to engage and destroy future threats that challenge 1-7CAV. This requires the platoon to be trained proficiently as both dismounted infantry in scenarios where they will spend ample time on foot in denied terrain that is inaccessible by their vehicles, but must also be ready to fight armored and mechanized threats on the open battlespace depending on the situation. Stryker Infantry are extremely adaptable and boast some of the most elite of skills in order to combat ever-changing threats on the battlefield.

- STRYKER VEHICLE DRIVER
-
The Stryker Vehicle Driver (VD) is responsible for the delivery of the mounted personnel and achieving the maneuver orders given by the VC or the SL. The Stryker Driver must stay mounted as often as possible to ensure the vehicle is consistently capable of rapid mobility.
- FIRETEAM LEADER
-
The Fire Team Leader (FTL) controls his scout team and directs the fires of his team members. The Fire Team is the smallest maneuver element within the platoon. A Stryker Squad operates two Fire Teams that are typically identical in capabilities. He is the initial point of contact for all team members within his team and oversees the direct combat actions his team is doing. In a scouting capacity, the Fire Team Leader is in charge of ensuring that his team accomplishes all of the commander's priority intelligence requirements. The Fire Team Leader is typically the tertiary Forward Observer in the Platoon, but may, at times, function as a designated Forward Observer depending on the mission. The Fire Team Leader is armed with an M320 Grenade Launcher along with his M4A1 Service Rifle.
- AUTOMATIC RIFLEMAN
-
The Automatic Rifleman (AR) provides his fireteam with local fire superiority during maneuvers. He works directly with the FTL to ensure fire superiority is achieved against the enemy to allow the squad time to maneuver, close with, and destroy the enemy.
- GRENADIER

- SQUAD DESIGNATED MARKSMAN
-
The Squad Designated Marksman (SDM) is a role that can be fulfilled by the rifleman if he meets all requirements (Expert score on the M4A1 Service Rifle). He is armed with a Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR) equipped with powerful optics. His role is to provide overwatch and support for the squad and eliminate priority threats while still maneuvering with the fireteam.
- WEAPONS SQUAD LEADER

He works directly alongside the Platoon Sergeant to ensure placement of his mortar teams is ideal to accomplish the mission. In scouting missions, the Weapons Squad will typically have one 82mm or 60mm mortar on standby at the ORP while the other Weapons Team provides local security for the ORP.
- WEAPONS TEAM LEADER
-
The Weapons Team Leader (WTL/FTL) directs his Weapons Team with whatever weapons the platoon require the weapons squad to operate. This, primarily, is the 82mm mortar. The responsibilities of the Weapons Team Leader vary depending on the system his team is operating, but he is largely in charge of ensuring his gunner has the gun laid based on the WSL's guidance, and oversees sustainment for his team.
- PLATOON MEDIC
