Pros:
  • Great platoon leadership and direction on objectives. PL was always communicating and organizing between squads.
  • Great driver/gunner communication, impressive attentiveness by the drivers.
  • Fireteam leadership was exceptional and fluid, especially when directing heavy weapons.
  • Every trooper learned something or sharpened a skill from this FTX.
  • Excellent spotting enemy's/AOI's.
  • Overall a great structure, informative, attentive, and a great overall training environment to stimulate the learning and application of these last 4 weeks of training. The squad was extremely happy with this FTX's organization and outcome.
  • Attendance was great OVERALL filling the entire training server up!

Cons:
  • Voice ranges needed to be monitored. Talking on 50M while inside your vehicle is not needed when talking to the person next to you. Hearing everyone's side banter/information/etc. jumbles up the sound net quickly.
  • Establishing stricter voice teaching protocols for communication. An officer/NCO should not have to ask 2-3 times overall for everyone to quiet down so he can speak or brief the company and keep everything on track. (In MY opinion)

Name of Combat Mission: Totally an FTX, Q3, 2025 (Charlie Company FTX)
Time of Combat Mission (Zulu): 0000z
Element Callsign(s): Buffalo-1 (PIC)
Platform(s): UH-60
Element Leader: PVT.Madlock.B
Task(s): ISR, Reinsertion

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:
Private First Class Macintosh.S (Co-pilot)
Colonel Beiter.A (Crew Chief)
VisionX-FATghost (Crew Member)

  • Provided ISR for Bandit and Misfit callsigns during phase 2
  • Provided reinsertion for Bandit and Misfit callsigns during phase 3 & 4
  • Provided CAS for Bandit callsigns during phase 4

Pros:
  • Buffalo-1 communications within the cabin were first rate, crew members were attentive especially during ISR ops and final approaches to LZ's
  • LZ's were appropriately communicated to Buffalo-1 by Bandit and Misfit callsigns

Cons:
  • Buffalo-1 orbits during ISR operations were unpredictable due to AO constraints - I as the PIC was directly responsible for this -
  • One approach to LZ "Semi-Safe" designated by Misfit callsigns featured Buffalo-1 flying directly over an enemy BTR, communication regarding the BTR to Buffalo-1 was non-existent

Overall, the FTX seemed to run fairly smoothly. From the perspective of the sky the Convoy looked magnificent and formations in phases 3 & 4 were superb (from our perspective). Buffalo-1 members were sincerely impressed by Banshee, Bandit, and Misfit callsigns during phase 2. A big thank you to Charlie Company for including Alpha Company members in your FTX.

Pros
  • Always enjoyable getting flight time in with the unit.
  • Got a few good runs in. Thank you CPT.Hilberg.A for trying to keep us busy.
  • All parties involved in CSAR operations of downed aircraft performed their roles expertly making for expeditious recovery of the survivor.

Cons
  • Flight needs work on patterns.
  • ISR from DAP is extremely difficult to be effective with rendering limitations. Recommend AH-6M or AH-64D as Escort/ CAS as either is better equipped for the role with cameras.
  • Impressive and medal worthy RPG shot from OPFOR from about 700m + out with almost zero audible while in orbit allowing no time to maneuver. Thank you CPT.Hilberg.A for trying to keep us busy.

Pros:
  • Convoy looked good as a company.
  • Got our PCC's/PCI's done within 5 minutes.

Cons:
  • Took about 50 minutes to step off base
  • Took about 90 of 120 minutes allotted to see any contact
  • Overshot our lane. Dismounted essentially surrounded in an close contact environment
  • Lost vehicles
  • Black tags (myself. I died within 60 seconds of dismounting)
  • I don't really see what the point of doing a high level briefing ahead of time if we're going to then do another one in game for the entire company. The point of a pre game briefing is to give a high level briefing to the SLs, who then disseminate information to the FTLs who then further disseminate information to their individual troopers
  • I understand what we're trying to do with the dry run to implement what we do (or are supposed to do) in our individual SPs - but I don't think having a single squad LARP on the flight line in front of the company is useful per se, especially when its supposed to be a culmination of everything we've already been doing the entire month. The point of an FTX is supposed to be putting what we've learned in action, not doing a last minute cram session during our valuable 2 hours. I think that led to a late step off time - that plus a long drive led to troopers becoming disengaged.
  • I thought the ORP was completely useless
  • I know this is against AI and AI are usually room temp IQ, but we're trying to play this with an emphasis on realism. I don't think its realistic to have two massive airframes doing ISR directly over a convoy - it gives away our position/lets the OPFOR know we're coming. If we're trying to be realistic, we'd just have a dude with a DJI drone or a reaper loitering at a high altitude that would be more advantageous; unless we're using the airframes for CAS, which it didn't appear we did. Even then, I would like to see them in a HA far enough away they can't hear or see them until we are decisively engaged.
  • Didn't use the vehicles in a manner that were tactically supportive. We basically got engaged, got surrounded, got out, and fought for our lives.
  • Driver lagged and hit a tree. I got ejected from the back seat somehow despite the door being closed?

Pros:
  • FTX had great turnout (15 vehicle convoy!!!)
  • Hilberg OPs never boring
  • Great job reacting to contact and treating casualties
  • Beginning of the OP went great with vehicle movements (Bandit-1 had lead vics)
  • CLS made good decisions when it came to picking up casualties when 7 went down
  • Fireteam communication was great
  • Good succession of command

Cons:
  • Had lots of crashes, probably due to amount of vehicles / people in server
  • Infantry needs to stay off to the side of vics when doing dismounted convoy operations
  • Took lots of casualties near the end of the OP which made the remainder difficult (bandit still pulled through!)
  • CCP setup / security was questionable
  • Troopers / CLS's dislike the bandage/saline limit

Pros:
Company convoy movement was on point.
Everyone Had fun.
Platoon convoy planning was great.
Monthly training plan showed effective results during the FTX.
Squad movement at objective was verry well done.

Cons:
There was a lot of stop and go during convoy phase.
Communication both on radio and in proximity could have been more clear and less clustered.
On the way to objective there could have been more contact to shoot at on the way.
Briefing could have been shortened and more to the point to allow for more time during the convoy phase and to allow for more contact to be added.

Pros:
  • Element was able to provide effective fire support in coordination with other platoon elements.
  • Communication, Contact Reports and Fire Commands all done exceptionally well by team members.
  • Good implementation of vehicle mounted weapons during combat phases
Cons:
  • A mistake in navigation lead to overshooting the dismount point at one objective.
  • Excessive short halts during company convoy movement to the ORP
  • The armored HMMWV mod used during this mission has a buggy hitbox that collides with the ground
