COMBAT AFTER ACTION REPORT
Name of Combat Mission: Firefight Friday August 25 FF026
Element Callsign: Gunslinger-5
Element Leader: Second Lieutenant Ratliff.B

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:
  1. Second Lieutenant Ratliff.B

Pros:
  • Mission plan and design worked well for the scope of the operation
  • Objectives were populated well and was a challenge for the infantry
  • Excellent work by the entire Company element after objectives
  • MCI towards the end was incredible, lots of action going on

Cons:
  • A little disorganized at the start, but as it got going it was much better
  • I was tasked with organizing the 7th Cav Convoy and I ordered the push through contact, which doesn't mesh well with Bradleys/Strykers

Pros:
  • FTLs stepped up and did a great job. Squad coordination was good, formations were good.
  • Troopers enjoyed the scale of combat
  • Troopers enjoyed the organization of the unit and the ability to showcase training
  • Non 1-7 personal had fun and want more Arma action.

Cons:
  • Due to scale of friendly forces we were a bit disorganized. Troopers were a little confused by the role of our squad in the overall movement and felt left behind or forgotten.
  • Lack of a clear plan led to confusion attacking the early objectives.
  • One trooper showed up late and was stuck in a helicopter for "20 minutes"

Pros:
  • good fun to have a new group and especially another clan seeing the higher numbers is always a pleasure
  • with the higher groups as opposed to the normal amount we have it really kept us busy there wasnt a dull moment at all for any of us no sitting at a helipad on standby and thats awesome
  • we were able to provide troop inserts resupply ISR along with eliminating 1x BTR with the miniguns and multiple squads of infantry
  • we were never shot down by the enemy which is a good feeling
  • solid communication from 5 was coming through the horn the entire duration of the OP despite having 70+ people to listen/respond to in addition to us
  • even in the face of the adversities we faced, be it pilots lagging out, flying in the dark, or the blackhawks not having functional co-pilot sticks we adapted, overcame and continued to persevere, delivering souls and supplies where they were needed which i have to say made me very proud to be part of buffalo flight tonight

Cons:
  • the amount of disconnects and connectivity issues really hurt us as pilots, specifically if a ground element has a man disconnect he can rejoin where he was and it may slow the movement of the troop but at the end of the day thats the full extent, whereas in a bird with 5-13 pax on board if your pilot disconnects then the entire airframe goes down, costing the lives of the crew and the souls were transporting
  • segwey into the next point disconnecting wouldnt have been such a catastrophic failure of our airframe if the UH-60 we currently have had a functional co-pilot stick, as in the co-pilot does not currently have the ability to take over flight controls. in our three crashes, where 9-15 people lost their lives each time, these would have been recoverable and not resulted in casualties had the co-pilot been able to take over the bird. this isnt just a "not fun" part of our gameplay but really a critical failure in our role as transport pilots due to things beyond our control

Pros
  • Heavy contact resulted in lots of work for us during the operation providing aid and saving approximately 25 red tags.
  • Great coordination with 5 throughout the operation and working alongside the 75th.
  • Responded to an MCI where the Western most assault position was being overrun. Assisted directing defenders and pulled multiple casualties out of harm's way keeping the position from collapsing.
  • Defeated an armed enemy combatant with hand-to-hand combat that managed to penetrate forward lines undetected.
  • Infiltrated enemy positions to rescue and provide life saving measures to an unconscious trooper trapped behind enemy lines after the entire squad had fallen to enemy armor and infantry that had pushed through their position.
  • Led a fireteam reinserting and broke through enemy lines to provide support and rescue surrounded friendly forces where 7-2 was directing and providing lifesaving aid to multiple casualties.

Cons
  • Dropped during insertion into shallow waters from approximately 30ft in the air approximately 2km from objective (knee and back injuries are not service related).

- Felt like we did a good job supporting infantry
- Good communication between BFVs
- Did some formations and looked really cool doing it

Cons:
- Initial plan for convoy was unclear
- Pushed through contact when we probably shouldn't have

Element Callsign: Bashee-3

Element Leader:
Captain Rodahl.S

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:
Staff Sergeant Lucander.P

Pros:
  • Good time
  • Great comms with other elements
  • Formations with vehicles were super cool
  • Actual support of infantry
  • Super cool to see the turnout from 75th
Cons:
  • Slotting list (forum) should include all slots to get a picture of how many is coming, or we should make more use of the rsvp function? We need a better inclination as leadership of how many people are showing up.
  • Mission makers need to reach out to OIC prior to the missions, so we don't have the last minute signups. Everything feels very rushed and infers a lack of preparedness.
Note: the cons are personal gripes, and opinions and not really.
