Pros:
  • Everyone did excellent for the adaptability of the operation as it unfolded
  • Good coms with ODIN-6 and crew after radio communication was established in the field
  • Viking-5 did outstanding work taking command when I was unable too.
  • Shout out to Viking-3 Grgich.A and his crew did some awesome work in the town

Cons:
  • No command and control with the Sierra's after the initial crews were lost in the fight, over time the crews became intermixed and caused confusion.
  • LAV's are weak as all get out, they need to be used more like tanks rather than Strykers in the past with Bravo, they're too squishy to be used as troop transport.
  • LAV's also have terrible scopes and engaging anything close range is almost impossible. Additionally, when they were spawned in, they came with half fuel and only a small amount of ammunition.
  • The initial step-off from Levie was chaotic but that's on myself for not coordinating that better.
  • Viking-5 and Viking-6 should not be in Sierra's as they require a lot more than what the Strykers of the past do when it comes to command and control.
  • Smokes from ODIN are not as effective as anticipated
  • As far as future S3 operations go, we need to focus on not giving bad intel. I understand it is for the purpose of fun, but we need the ability to slow down. We were ambushed almost immediately after leaving Levie when the OPORD stated they were mustering still in Levie and therefor caused a lot of FRAGO from the plans, on top of that the LRP that was going to be established had enemy infantry on top of it which was unclear when prior to the OP I was told that North of the LRP was cleared of enemies, which was not true.
NOTE:
With only having limitations with Radios, I could not effectively communicate with Helios as I was monitoring 45 and 62 while Helios was on 45.5

Pros:

  • We were able to defend the LRP Rune successfully
  • Not alot of black tags (i think I was the only one who died at the start)
  • We successfully broke contact form LRP Rune along the orange route

Cons:

  • We got hung up a few times along the route to the dismount point which resulted in us losing our arsenal truck in the rear
  • A deeper succession of command should be implemented if we split the squad (aka adding a 3IC)
  • We didn't get to service vehicles that much tonight due to a lack of personnel and vehicles being FUBAR'd
Notes: In terms of releasing PWs I believe the best way is to post the password in a non public area for 7Cav personnel to have for the Op time to reduce confusion and wait time. Otherwise we could send the PW to leader elements and they can disseminate the password during the latter half of briefings.

Element Callsign: ODIN-6

Element Leader: Captain Berg.J
Troopers:
ODIN-1 (See ODIN-1 AAR)

Pros:
  • 306 HE shells fired, 18 smoke shells fired and 15,480 supplies consumed (Thanks Bunnell.M!)
  • Helios made sure we were constantly supplies.
  • Once communications were established, they were relatively smooth with any asset we needed to contact.

Cons:
  • Smoke shells are somewhat underwhelming in their effect.
  • We need to consider using 8 digit grids (I know the difficulty stems from 8 digit grids not showing up on zooming in like they did in Arma 3)
  • The mortars seem to jitter after some time and it affects their deflection and elevation. We don't yet know if this affects fires.

Viking-3-4 (SOL): SPC.Cappedu.R [RET]
Viking-3-5 (SOL): PVT.Giordano.C (Sundown)
Viking-3-6 (SOL): PVT.Vara.J (Killa)

Pros:
  • Good job with formations with in the element
  • Good level of aggression shown by survivors of step off LAV kill

Cons:
  • Lack of inter Viking coms for coordination in seting up 'Dismount & Maneuver' phase
    • For that a more clear CoC for dismounts, and or Viking 6 and 5 need a 3 man crew
    • Could not say it better, a clear line of when we should be weapons hot needs to be kept too.

Pros:
Teams did great responding to calls for fire
Troopers really enjoyed it
Over 300 rounds expended
Able to run 3 tubes after shuffling some troopers around

Cons:
Got a little lax on behavior in down time
Need some more hands experience for some returning troopers
Mortars bugging out, possibly due to server side lag or something related to how reforger deals with vehicles and server lag

Pros:
Great comms between troopers and squads.

Provided tremendous medical care to an assortment of soldiers during the city assault.

Cons:
Was a part of Helios but a Cav member not on the sign up took the slot after crashing out during staging in Levie, leaving me to organize randos without any direction.

The password roll out did not go smoothly and really impacted the staging phase.

The contact encountered right after setting off from Levie incurred a lot of KIAs before even getting close to the dismount area.

Element Callsign: VIKING-5

Element Leader: Sergeant First Class Willson.JA
Troopers:
Second Lieutenant Whitsel.M

Pros:
  • Seira crews had good comms with each other for movement on the objective.
  • Good coms with the platoon and crew after radio communication was established in the field
  • Infantry worked well around the Seiras, giving protection to the vics.

Cons:
  • No command and control was maintained with the Sierras after the initial crews were lost in the fight. Over time, the crews became mixed, causing confusion for command and control.
  • LAVs are way too weak to be used as assault elements and should be used as SBF.
  • LAVs also have terrible scopes, and engaging anything at close range is almost impossible. Additionally, when they were spawned in, they came with half fuel and only a small amount of ammunition.
  • Seira crews become intermingled with each other due to a lack of reinsertion ability at the point where the crews died.
  • Viking-5 and Viking-6 should not be in Sierra as they require a lot more than what the Strykers of the past do in terms of command and control.
  • Bad intel was given for the operation, and it almost made the mission fail due to the scope of work required. This did not feel like a spoiling attack, but rather a full-on assault on the town of Morton.

Pros:
  • Good fluidity in leadership change.
    • SL DCd halfway throughout the operation, and we had an internal 2IC rolling and had no issues with the transition.
  • CQB.
    • Very engaging CQB throughout the church.
    • Combat in 3 dimensions.
  • Squad activities on rear security.
    • Patrols.
    • TRPs.
    • Multiple fighting positions.
  • Movement with Sierra 2.
    • At one moment we had great movement, security and communication.
  • Devastating Enemy Ambush.
    • Ambush was very well coordinated both with pre ranged artillery and excellent enemy firing lines, even had a clean-up squad laying in wait.
Cons:
  • Low contact.
    • Contact for Lancer had extreme lulls, but when the contact was happening it was really engaging.
  • Public player pen.
    • Lancer ended up being on the top of the list for public players to join, at one point making us have 8 troopers in the squad.
    • We need a look on what we can do to when we have new players join in progress to figure out where they can fill reserved.
  • Convoy Operations.
    • Communications.
      • Turns not being opened/closed on 63,5.
      • Contact reports not given on 63,5.
      • We had check-ins, but were missing a proper step-off with Viking 5 announcing it on 63,5.
    • Order of march.
      • Viking 6 was somehow the lead element of the convoy.
      • We had elements to conduct route reconnaissance and early warning, but chose to stick them in the back.
    • Convoy leadership got taken out early.
  • Squad organization.
    • Due to the constant transition of troopers, it was difficult at times to keep track of who was in what fireteam.
  • Password rollout had some hiccups and could be looked at for improved iterations.

Two new enlistments from the operations for our squad is Great Success.

Element Call sign: Chaos-1

Element Leader: Second Lieutenant Davis.D
Troopers:

Pros:

  • Great attack on Targets once called in on the 5-lines, and ISR was able to be established to see what what coming in
  • Very fun operation, very intense, always had calls coming in for both Bisons
  • Viking-6 and myself were on the same page the entire time if he needed CFF they were called in
  • Confirmed kills as followed 3x Mortars, 7x BRDM, 10x BTR, 4x MI-8 Armed & 2x Fortified MG nests

Cons:
  • Told during the opord the enemy was fortifying the town, but roughly 400M from step off was enemy contact
  • The LAV step off was sloppy, and when asked what LAV was Viking-5; Godfather replied "theirs 4 LAVS, if you cant count and find yours then its your issue".
  • Succession of command was established but when we took contact and went down it felt disorganized
  • I was unable to get eyes on the city for the 1st hour due to me being KIA in the LAV attacks and then waiting on the LAV to be repaired and move to the dismount point.
  • when told about approaching BRDM and BTR's, and asked for grid refs, pilots wouldnt give grid refs until asked again

Element Callsign: BISON - 2

Element Leader: Private First Class Bishop.B
Troopers:
PIC - Private First Class Bishop.B
CP - Chief Warrant Officer 2 Peterson.L
CC - Warrant Officer 1 Ratliff.B

DG - Specialist Bull.T

Pros:
  • BISON - 2 crew communication and operation was on point. CP, CC, and DG operated like a well oiled machine and were excellent in each of their roles rarely if ever needing direction allowing us to be extremely effective in our CAS and ISR roles.
  • Engagements were plentiful. So much so, BISON - 2 had taken and survived heavy fire multiple times thanks to crew callouts. Three times we were able to perform evasive maneuvers and RTB with heavy damage but had to crash land on a fourth narrowly avoiding direct collision with trees, and having our CC pulled out of the aircraft by said trees into the woods (clearly the local flora was upset with our deforestation efforts in the last operation). We managed to come out into the open field on the other side and land skidding at high speeds. DG immediately proceeded to destroy the un-operable aircraft while the pilots recovered the CC who had miraculously managed to survive his fall. All aircrew survived (even the PIC who had somehow lost his sidearm in the crash and had to resort to potentially using hand to hand combat...) and were recovered by BISON - 1 to be put back in the fight as soon as treated for injuries.
  • ODIN batteries fire mission were glorious to watch from the air.
  • CHAOS callouts and communication were on point with BISON - 2
  • BISON - 2 engaged multiple Mi-8's, BTR's, BDRM's, fortified positions, mortars, and infantry units. The first Mi-8 engagement BISON - 2 managed to score an air to air kill with a rocket.
  • Mi-8 pilots were extremely aggressive which led to a very good time dogfighting.
  • BISON - 2 performed multiple reinserts. One of which included a hot drop under fire to the convoy on the outskirts of town. All troops were put directly back safely and swiftly into the fight to accomplish their mission. The secondary mission allowed for deconfliction and a steady rotation allowing a BISON to be on station with minimal downtime between calls.

Cons:
  • During second fight with an Mi-8 rocket gunship lag spike and framerate drop caused midair collision after losing ability to control aircraft. Multiple rapid bursts from the Mi-8. Was still a very fun dogfight up until that point. Great flying OPFOR pilots.
  • Zeus mortar tool and Mi-8 rockets cause massive framerate drops. This happens on every server and solo play from most people I've talked to. Mi-8 should avoid rapid multiple bursts and ripple not set to higher than four to combat this. As for Zeus mortars using medium and small successive strikes might help mitigate the issues.
  • Multiple calls to find mortar pits that were being simulated firing using Zeus mortars. Without report from the mortars and low render range from the air at times this makes it extremely difficult to accomplish effective ISR without flying nearly NoE. Mission control could potentially indicate vague direction in chat or on radio to simulate report.

Element Call sign: Helios-5

Pros:
  • I was quite a bit inebriated
  • LRP was successful if only briefly used.
  • ODIN was kept in good supply for this operation.
  • Helios-1 SL did a good job organizing the LRP and his team.
  • Good BUG OUT response time by HELIOS elements at the LRP.
Neutral:
  • I perhaps wasnt needed for this one.
Cons:
  • I was quite a bit inebriated
  • I forgot to bring a new arsenal truck to the LRP
  • Global Supply was disabled for some time.
  • HELIOS felt Squeezed for slots. (though a moot point in hindsight)

Pros:
  • Lots of Contact
  • Good squad communication
  • Kept up momentum
  • 2IC was able to take charge of squad while I was incapacitated
  • Good support by sierra, cas, and odin

Cons:
  • Convoy order, communications, step off, and actions on contact
  • Radio limitations
  • Sierras need infantry support
  • Reinsert logistics - had several waiting around with no direction
  • Succession of command appears to need SOP for transfer between Viking and Helios Elements
    • If 5/6 goes down in viking who notifies Helios 6/5 when running different radio nets?
    • How would the other platoon support and command elements they are not in direct contact with, and do not have first hand awareness of the situation?
