Pros:

  • The communication on MED net was good, the 6-lines were good too
  • The elements moving through the PLs felt clean

Cons:

  • Step off time could've been quicker, and the Op felt very slow from start to first contact.
  • The calls from 6-lines were coming out unrefined or inaccurate about amount of casualties and level of treatment needed.
  • Trooper communication within the team was poor, or nonexistent
  • Getting mass cassed by a APC or IFV that flanked the platoon.

Notes: My main issue was the APC or IFV that flanked around our platoon and Mass cassed my team wasn't properly relayed and I was assuming from the briefing that we would have mostly static vehicles in emplacements.

Pros:

Good fun

A lot of contacts

Challenging contacts

A lot of call ins

Cons:

Mortars did not know what they were suppose to do with 60mm at 2km+ in the beginning.

Direct hit artillery without spotters is frustrating for me as 4 actual.

Weapons

240B - Disappeared

Mortars - Ground ate

Striker - Owned 3 main battle tanks, Damaged and could not be rearmed.
Striker - We request our AT launcher back for the strike on modern tank operations.

Bandages, 8 seconds bandaging is too long for explosive detonations, 3 reds turned black in our hands after 5 min of bandaging.

Pros:
  • Enjoyed being here with Bravo and had lots of fun.
  • Excellent comms with Viking-5 and Warhorse.
  • Single pilot so very busy with resupplies and reinserts.
  • Great LZ coordination.
Cons
  • Unfortunate crash where my tail rotor got shot and while damage appeared, I still had good tail rotor authority/control, so I decided to continue with the insertion of the onboard troopers. During the hover, tail rotor failed and I couldn't get altitude for our recovery technique due to getting spiked by some AA, so I put it down and it came down, upside down, unexploded on a house porch. Quite hilarious, see picture.
  • No aircraft crew, but appreciate the infantry manning the guns as I requested.

Element Callsign: WARHORSE-5
Element Leader: First Lieutenant Narramoor.A

Pros
  • Lots of tasking for all infantry elements and one of the atlas teams
  • Good defensive positions from the mission maker
Cons
  • Division of responsibility for WH5 needs to be improved to reduce confusion
  • Mutual Security could be improved, enemies were able to manoeuvre around and neutralise an ATLAS team in the back line
  • Underutilisation of the vehicle net
  • Technical Issues from 4
  • SITREPs & sustainment communication could be improved
Lessons Learnt
  • (Vincent) OPFOR MBT/IFV ATGMS are difficult to handle for Raider Flight
  • (Vincent) Some of the static MG positions and ATGMs had disabled simulation
  • (S3) Viking-5 Sierra had a glitch where it could no longer rearm a damaged Sierra-4, might be a one-off
  • WARHORSE to utilise 50 instead as that's the expected Zeus net.

SPC.Rutkowski.P
SPC.Walker.R
SPC.Winter.R
SPC.Shepard.S

Pros:
  • Fun despite the goal the element had
  • I am a fun person so they had to have fun, it was mandatory
  • Atlas did a great job helping us survive the onslaught by being on top of us
  • Missions template was pretty cool and had some fun stuff baked in like the trench lines and the attack helo's
  • Sierra did a spin kick
Cons
  • The amount of uncovered terrain to our east combined with our lane made for a very lengthy front Viking-2 had to cover and advance through
  • Many vehicles that we couldn't truly stop from sidestepping us due to the open uncovered eastern part of town
  • Little light on the infantry contact but very heavy of the vehicle side of it for our lane
  • I'd give medal recs but I don't remember who did what due to the chaos of trying to keep people alive
  • Sierra did a spin kick

Element Callsign: Viking-7
Element Leader:
CPL.Eugene.R

Pros:

  • Good communication and coordination with both medical teams.
  • Mission design was good and I enjoyed it.
  • Medics got to do work despite number of black tags due to delay of info being passed up.
  • Mass cas incidents were handled extremely well until BTR flanked and pushed the CCP.
  • We had to fall back and break contact after getting our teeth kicked in. Great change of pace from constant winning.
Cons:
  • Platoon movement at start felt lost, elements being 500+ meters ahead of another squad.
  • Enemy vehicles broke through lines and wiped Atlas-1 & the CCP.
  • Squad ACE reports being relayed medical wise were some what incorrect with info on type of casualties.
  • CCP's were set down but never really got to be utilized due to overall distance of infantry and medical teams.

Element Callsign: Viking - 6
Element Leader: Second Lieutenant Rodahl.S

Pros:
  • Fantastic strategic and logistic challenge.
  • Great turn-out, despite a lot of troop staff having other obligations today.
  • Amazing presence by Charlie Company allowed us to field 3 Viking squads and maintain operational strength to follow the vision of the Bravo Troop staff.
  • A LOT of lessons learned and perspective obtained.
    • Maintain closer groupings of Squads.
    • Don't push squads too far away as it makes it difficult to resupply and assist medically.
    • We should ask S3 for help when it comes to controlling these missions so that the Troop staff can focus on the troop instead of enemy Ai's shortcomings.
    • More clarity on intent is important. This time we had a run-through of the entire Opord by OIC as per my suggestion due to a wish on keeping to continuity. I think my intent could have been clearer by going through the plan myself.

As a sidenote, I think dividing up the Platoons to conduct specifics of the Opords could be a notion to entertain on these bigger OPs. In our case, with only two platoons and with one platoon operating with reactionary templates - not really necessary.
  • Mortars were on point with CFF.
  • Chaos in tow afforded a lot of flexibility for CAS. Excellent work from Chaos!

Cons:
  • Throughout the OP, mutual support was a common theme we were lacking, and although we were operating under the umbrella of Viking 4s mortar teams, we were unable to maintain the same level of teamwork between Viking 1 and 2.
  • Break Contact drills were taking too long and were asymmetric, leaving one of the squads vulnerable to flanking manoeuvres from the enemy.
  • During the Operation we were taking flanking attacks from a part of town which I neglected in planning in order to align with the scope of the mission. It turned out to be a costly mistake, which became one of the crutches to our forward momentum.
