Pro:
  • Initial react to contact was great
  • Squad persevered through everything despite immense contact and poor terrain
Con:
  • Bandit 2's lane of advance was essentially a swamp; had to merge into Bandit-1's lane. Route should have been reconned prior
  • Flare/IDF booby traps; started moving immediately, still not enough time to get away from kill zone. Kill-zone of 155mm rounds is easily ~300 meters.
  • Scale of operation/amount of OPFOR contact was designed for whole company but not appropriately scaled down for attendance

Pro:
  • Great squad work.
  • Fireteam leader was excellent.
  • Communications were good within the squad.
  • Good succession of command work.
  • Security was set well.
  • Medical work was good.
  • Great reaction to contact.
  • Attached weapons team worked well.
  • Good buddy accountability.
Con:
  • Ammo & Equipment disappeared from trooper's backpacks, causing loss of critical 40mm HEDP rounds and demolition blocks.
  • Started off without PCCs and half a squad of troopers due to assault on friendly airfield.
  • Wrong LR was initially used.
  • Planning was done on the fly and had no real time available for squad level briefs.
  • Comms brevity could be improved on the LR.
  • Didn't really feel like a "Training Exercise" but rather a slug-fest.

Pro:
  • Immersive scenario.
  • Good choice of map, detailed and fitting.
  • CLS role very important today, looking forward to kit rework.
  • Good squad formations.
  • Echoing of orders down squad line.
  • Effective work with 5 squads working in tangent.
Con:
  • Further LR brevity required.

Pro:
  • Good platoon react to contact during initial engagement.
  • Accountability between squads seemed decent.
  • Adaptability in a difficult terrain.
  • Good Succession in a critical situation.
  • Aggressive tactics prevented the platoon from being pinned down too often in the final phases of the operation.
  • Individual trooper skill prevented OPFOR from gaining anything more than superficial advantages.
Con:
  • Not enough prep time for the platoon during the initial few minutes. This lead to the need for on the fly adaptability which was a pro.
  • Acre issues led to me not being able to use aviation which potentially could have overwhelmed Bandit-6.

Pro:
  • Super high casualty volume that was handled well by Atlas teams. Of the countless "red tags," I only tracked a single KIA.
  • Experienced medical teams meant there was very little micromanagement needed from -7, allowing me to assist with resupplies and focus on relaying casualty calls.
  • The map and environment were really cool! The swamp was a neat feature that created a noticeable hindrance to movement. A challenge we don't see very often.
  • Good buddy aide and self-aide inside squads made the Atlas team's job easier. CLSs, when present, did an excellent job.
Con:
  • Exfil (as far as boarding orders) was a bit hectic.
  • "Warning shots" at a civilian vehicle that nearly smoked the engine block and almost killed the driver. Funny but inappropriate escalation of force.

Pro:
  • Excellent individual soldier discipline
  • Excellent intra-squad comms
  • Good stepping up by 2IC's and 3IC's
  • Outstanding use of Hunt-IR
  • Captured POW that provided Intel
  • Excellent react to close contact the entire OP
  • Buddy aid was good and Atlas was ON POINT!!!
  • Attaching heavy weapons to squads was excellent and should happen more
Con:
  • Jungle warfare is rough: hard to keep formations
  • Could have made better use of 3 D's
  • *personal improve SL needs to be better on platoon net

  • Fast Response times when given a 6 line

Cons:
  • Unorganized extract order

Pro:
Great team to work with
Great comms between the teams and within the teams

Great reaction to calls
Great to see non medics fill the role

Con:
Exfil could have been done better
Some routes could have been better planned for the swamp environment
First mas cas left both teams basically black on supplies

Element Callsign: Buffalo 1,2,3
Element Leader:
Warrant Officer 1 Thumper.N

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:

Warrant Officer 1 Sparrow.P
Warrant Officer 1 Lindsay.A

Pro:
  • Supply crates (Medical & Ammo) in place beside Buffalo's on load in to map which was great!
  • Op was very well designed, briefed, and executed
  • Starting in a separate locale has benefits as long as the distance doesn't grow too large. Buffalo's cover ~ 3km/min so the spacing here worked nicely.
Con:
  • Jungle ops are tough both for infantry to stay in lanes, and tough for aviation to provide meaningful ISR or CAS for them, dense jungle/swamp sucks
  • Had comm issue with ground element(s) for initial pickup which caused some delays (orbit) but that got sorted out so relatively minor
  • Endex was close to start of SP for A/1/A/1-7 so we we had to leave to setup/join SP before leaders debrief
