Expanding Community to Console Players?

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Hope this community is well. I have been an avid HLL fan from afar for a couple years now but unfortunately have been off PC since my Steam days on Day of Defeat and Counter Strike back in the mid 2000s. I currently only play PS5. With the news that HLL will be coming to console on October 5th, I was wondering if 7th Cav was planning on adding a "console" unit to the current community structure today? From my research, I have not found any communities that have begun to expand (or plan to expand) to console members.

I would be interested in helping establish the 7th Cav "console unit" if that is something this community is open to pursuing.

For some context on the guy behind this random post in your forums, some information about me:

I am an avid PS5 player (when able to outside my daily work and husband/father responsibilities). Most recently I've been playing large PvP shooters such as Battlefield V and am a Twitch Affiliate (although I have cut back my streaming). With regards to realism, I have a lot of real-world military experience and leadership. I graduated from West Point, served as an Infantry Officer in the Army for 5 years (was a rifle platoon leader, a heavy weapons platoon leader, company executive officer, and a company commander prior to leaving the Army in 2020) and earned my ranger tab, airborne badge, pathfinder badge, and expert infantryman's badge during my 5 years.

I don't intend on this being about me....but happy to join and help expand the 7th Cav to the console community coming up here in October. Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks,

Mike Atkinson

The details would have to be worked and figured out, but there is no rule or regulation barring console games, things like the forums, discord, and ts3 would still be needed on some level, but where the game is actually played doesnt really matter.

is HLL console crossplay with pc?

Unfortunately, from everything I have read and researched, cross-play will only work between PS5 and Xbox....not with PC users.

Happy to help you all work through the details, etc. if this is something the 7th is interested in pursuing.

Will definitely need to talk over the logistics of this. Regi and Batt should get together for a discussion for sure on this since it could have quite a few bumps in the road we need to smooth out first (but not insurmountable).

I will talk from my own perspective. But it would obviously need to be discussed at the regimental level (this is less Battalion, as it would be a huge shift in our way of life as a community)

I personally don’t see this happening. I don’t expect us to ever gain traction with console players joining team speak on a nearby laptop to play a console game. Same goes for discord. Would these console players be ready to join departments whose work rely on a computer? You can’t do S1 work from a console. Just too many barriers

What would be the point? To get more numbers? We’d fracture part of the community for little gain in the long run.

I think there could be some workarounds - i.e., requiring console players to have a laptop (for TeamSpeak, additional duties like S1), exploring PS5 communication platforms (party chat via PSN friends in party chat), Discord via iPhone app or, again, via laptop, etc. etc.

In terms of fractioning the community, I can't comment on that since you all know your community and people better than I can ever at this point.

Inherently, there will be a "disconnect" as console players will play separately from PC users and not interact as much in-game (unless PC users have PS5/Xbox or vice versa) but should still have interactions via the forums and/or other social events the 7th conducts.

However, I think adding a console "specialty platoon" or "detachment" can be an option to test at the start (~20-30 players...it will be a slow ramp up after release on October 5th due to the newness and limited exposure for console players). So, early in the process, it would be more unit formation, training as a unit through playing together on public/private servers. Then, as more HLL console communities stand-up, I believe competition will begin to emerge.

Other considerations - besides members paying their yearly PSN subscription cost, there would be no server hosting costs, etc. I believe (will need to verify upon release) that private games can be setup for training or friendly scrimmages in the future but the majority of playing will involve Squads of 7th console members joining the same public server and communicating via the options explained above.

Again, don't need to solution on this thread but I think there are options that I can help you all explore and standup.

I am talking to some people and exploring the technical details, Mike, if you or anyone else is interested in this further please pm me as gauging interest is also part of the process. The release is in October, so I am confident we can have an answer before we hit october.
