Whenever I joined 7Cav and milsim in general in Arma, PVE was out of the question the best experiences I've had in the games. I believe the PVE side of things is what keeps us grounded in the milsim aspect of our battalion, using tactics, communications, and ensuring we have good squad compositions whereas PVPVE seems to only bring out a more meta playstyle and doesn't feel as authentic. Yes we could use tactics and other things in a PVP environment but nothing stops a single guy far off with some squad wiping weapon or vehicle to ruin that experience, its kind of why we try to let our Ops play autonomously without much interference unless bugs occur or AI is being wonky so we can give an solid unique experience.

In my mind the solution should be that the Cav is primarily focused on PVE types of gameplay to bring that authentic milsim experience into play and to immerse all our members and public players to come and enjoy that, but if you want to have a PVP or PVPVE type scenario there are plenty of servers we could spend an hour or two on just to get our name out there while also participating in a more casual environment, we could even participate in events like I've seen been posted in the past with other units or communities because why not, it gets our name out there and maybe it'll help the foot traffic in our own servers as well.

Obviously there's a bunch of differing opinions on what should be done and pros and cons to everything but we shouldn't forget what our vision should be which in my opinion is providing an authentic milsim experience that's grounded but also fun.

I believe returning PVE server will be the rignt thing to do. Not everyone loves PVP or PVPVE component and It would be wise to listen to players and S3 staff as at the end of the day S3 organises GMM and OPs on servers for both public and Cav players to enjoy and so far we had our share of success.

I believe it's important to have best of both worlds.

Reforger PvE is just an overall lackluster experience and poor ability to create consistent great operations. Lack of AI tools, and lack of diversity. I think we have had some great mission makers but, Reforger just offers such limited and poor tools to keep great long term engagement and "Wow" factor missions. It's same missions, different paint scheme with the Reforger tools.

Reforger PvP is by far the winning servers on Reforger, bolstering 80-85% of the popular servers (Looked at the top 50 most active) With more constant ARMA updates it takes away the "Battlefield" Style game player and does make you think more tactically and play more strategic, It is also harder to do "Military Role-play" I agree with that.

I agree with the people who want 1 of each, seems fair. But I have a feeling with the mods we only allow, limited equipment, hunch is both will stay pretty light in player count like the past year has shown us after consoles got mod support.

It's important to remember that this was also true with A3. The most popular A3 servers either ran KoTH, which despite all of the mature mechanics that A3 had to slow down gameplay, were very meta "Battlefield"-like experiences where it was every man for themselves, or Arma Life, which was all roleplay with PvP gang warfare. There were PvE servers up there running stuff like I&A, but the majority to this day is KoTH, Arma Life, Domination, and Warlords.

There will always be a larger PVP contingent in Arma because PVE requires a higher degree of coordination and "tactical realism" that a large chunk of players don't want to deal with. They want to hop on for an hour, shoot some guys, and then go about their day. They don't want to listen to a squad leader or maintain a base of fire or coordinate over the radio. We cannot make decisions about how we recruit based on the average WCS or Oldguys player because they fundamentally don't agree with anything we do here.

Is PVE lackluster? Yeah, but it was also lackluster in A3. The AI was never impressive and probably never will be. What isn't lackluster is what we can bring to the table in regards to organized gameplay. A majority of Arma players may be PVP, but what makes this a great game is what groups like ours have done with the PVE side, and that should be something we celebrate and proudly advertise. That is what made the Cav what it is. If we catered to the average player and chased the most popular servers, this organization would have never made it out of COD. I can guarantee you that crouch only servers were not all the rage back in the day.

I love PvP and PvE, so I'll play whichever server is more populated. What I would really not want to see - at least while our pops are low - is 10 people in one server and 10 people in another. Not sure we have the luxury of a bifurcated community at the moment.

Sadly my availability doesn't seem to overlap at all with most Cav players or events, so I usually just end up on Official servers late at night.

Personally, I prefer Vanilla/Vanilla+ because there's just less jank to deal with, fewer performance issues, fewer lag spikes, and I find the low-tech gameplay much more satisfying, but I'll play Reforger however I can get it.

This is an interesting thread for PvE not a place to argue for PvP. If you dont have an interest in PvE, you should keep your opinions to yourselves
