OPERATION ORDER (OPORD)

1. SITUATION
Enemy Forces:
- Expect light enemy presence along the designated patrol route, with possible trench-based defenses near the objective.
- Enemy patrols may be in the area, reacting to movement and engagement.
- Limited enemy fire support expected.
- 1st Platoon, Charlie Company conducting a long-range patrol and trench-clearing operation.
- Adjacent elements operating in separate training areas.
- Maintain noise and light discipline throughout the patrol phase.
- Follow engagement protocols for react-to-contact and hasty attack drills.
2. MISSION
1st Platoon will conduct a long-range patrol, culminating in an assault on an enemy trench position. The platoon will secure and consolidate on the trench line, holding and reinforcing it against counterattacks.
3. EXECUTION
Commander's Intent:
To develop platoon proficiency in movement, fire discipline, and breaching techniques. The key focus areas are:
- Formation Work – Practicing appropriate movement formations based on terrain.
- Reacting to Contact – Immediate actions when engaged.
- Trench Clearing – Breach and clear methods for securing trench segments.
- Unit Synchronization – Executing actions as a cohesive force.
Concept of Operations:
Phase 1: Preparation
- Conduct Pre-Combat Checks (PCCs) & Pre-Combat Inspections (PCIs) (5 minutes).
- Squad Leaders confirm readiness and brief respective teams.
- Platoon Sergeant provides final briefing before step-off.
Phase 2: Long-Range Patrol
- Move along the designated patrol route in staggered column or wedge formations based on terrain.
- Maintain noise and light discipline.
- Establish an Observation Post (OP) upon reaching the staging area.
- Conduct reconnaissance to identify enemy positions and strengths.
Phase 3: Assault the Trench
- Utilize breaching techniques to enter and clear initial trench segments.
- Conduct systematic trench clearing with fire team overwatch.
- Secure the trench and establish platoon defensive positions.
Phase 4: Consolidation & Reinforcement
- Platoon establishes security and prepares for potential counterattacks.
- Confirm ammunition and casualty status with squad leaders.
- Platoon Sergeant conducts After-Action Review (AAR) (10 min).
4. SUSTAINMENT
- Resupply: Simulated rearming will be available upon request to the Platoon Sergeant.
- Medical Evacuation: Treat in field.
- Support: None.
5. COMMAND & SIGNAL
- Command:
- Platoon Leader (PL) – Primary decision-maker for tactical execution.
- Platoon Sergeant (PSG) – Oversees execution and maintains discipline.
- Squad Leaders (SLs) – Responsible for fire teams and ensuring the execution of tasks.
- Signal:
- Primary Communication: Platoon Radio Net
- Contingency: Pre-determined hand signals in noise-restricted environments
- Challenge & Password: First, Last (example: Challenge - "if you ain't first!", Password - "than you're last, Ricky!"
Coordinating Instructions:
- All teams must maintain proper spacing and movement discipline.
- Troopers are expected to execute SOPs without direct orders where applicable.
ENDSTATE:
- Platoon successfully patrols, clears the trench, and holds the objective.
- Unit achieves improved synchronization and automatic responses in trench engagements.
- Lessons learned during AAR to refine future training exercises.
