Pros
  • Creative and unique mission concept - Ferry/transport mission was different and was received well
  • Fast-paced with dynamic planning - Off the cuff planning added excitement
  • Good navigation challenge - Players enjoyed working out their own routes and navigation-heavy elements
  • Excellent teamwork and communication - Good use of comms in planning, helpful interaction between pilots (Villmarson/Rayner, Carson/Monzon)
  • Human RIO experience - Great interaction between backseat/pilot roles
  • Dissimilar aircraft operations - Interesting coordination between different airframes (F14/others)
  • SAM threat element - Not knowing precise SAM placements added to the challenge and raised adrenaline
  • Low and fast flying - Fun change of pace

Cons
  • Insufficient SAM reconnaissance time - Not enough time to view SAM placements
  • Single runway airfield issues - 15-minute pattern wait at Maykop; needs two runways
  • Communications confusion - Some didn't understand takeoff/landing comms procedures; radio clutter at times; ATC blaring during Swift/Vick takeoff
  • Radio technical issues - CH-47 can only use presets, cannot manually change frequencies; should use FMs for inter-flight
  • Communication misunderstandings - Confusion between Ninja 21/Ninja 22 - OIC should ensure pilots are in the correct roles, and that callsigns are understood
  • Flight lead rust - Some participants felt rusty with flight leading
