Pros:
  • Convoy movement was excellent and we moved very efficiently and effectively
  • Platoon push to the first objective was slow, but the individual teams made it work
  • Misfit-4 was pushed to a blocking position, which can be boring, but they got it done well
  • The apartment building defense was done well, we repelled about a platoon sized element
  • Assaulting the castle was a cool thing
Cons:
  • Size and scope, it was covered extensively
  • The platoon lacked cohesion and I didn't step in to ensure its cohesiveness

Pros:
  • Heavy initial contact
  • Squad 2IC did a great job keeping up comms and keeping the squad together whenever SL went down
Cons:
  • Heavy Weapons felt underutilized, especially the Carl Gustaf.
  • Our vehicle despawned at one point
  • Squad cohesion was difficult do to lack of reinsert plan, and terrain .
  • Troopers would have preferred to move as attached MG teams to others squads, or as fill ins for the rifle squads.
  • It was difficult to keep up pace with the other squads.
  • As SL, I should have communicated more on the radio our position and movements.

Element Leader: Staff Sergeant Borenstein.B

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:

Specialist Delgado.C
Sergeant Turner.L
First Lieutenant Hilberg.A
Second Lieutenant Burton.P
Specialist Sandoval.M
Private Adams.T

Pros:
  • Super heavy contact throughout
  • lots of hand grenade range contacts. lots of engagements
  • well thought out
  • squad worked cohesively.
  • we held that intersection at the cordon point/eastern intersection like champs, and even pushed to the T intersection to continue wiping out Russians.
  • wonderful woodland engagements.
Cons:
  • slightly low turnout
  • We only had one gun truck at the beginning; I was riding in the convoy in a soft top, soft door vehicle.... We got a replacement later - so that was good.
  • the MISFIT unit in the other lane to the last AOI moved up to the castle while we were still in heavy contact at the lower third from the RP to the castle. This was a major tactical error. On one hand, its my fault because I didn't coordinate with the other squad, but on the other, the squad was already at the castle while I was in heavy contact. We both need to have better communication to prevent this from happening again.
  • At least one of our gun trucks was black on .50 by the time we got it to the Rally below the Castle RP and I think it was more of an issue of amount of contact rather than a fire control issue

Pros:
  • Good story mission
  • OPORD was planned well
  • Appropriate equipment offered
Cons:
  • Needed an assistant unfortunately
  • stretched too thin with the terrain and how spread out the squads were and was overwhelmed
  • got stressed out and left early. need to work on myself with dealing with all the radio calls and staying combat effective

Pros:
  • All troopers expressed that the entire operation was extremely fun
  • Plenty of contact (almost too much) and plenty of sub-objectives for various attack plans
  • Breach and Clear practices were near-perfect
  • Good FTL-FTL and SL communication
  • Decent reinsert procedures (One trooper did have trouble near the beginning regarding linking up with squad, as a result, black-tagged multiple times trying to reach AO)
  • Coordination between Misfit-1 and Misfit-2 was very satisfying and resulted in clearing a rather larger town with only two squads of 6-8 people
Cons:
  • Low turnout led to trouble executing operation objectives from beginning to end
  • The size of the settlement was too large for two squads with only 6-8 people which lead to numerous black tags throughout the operation
  • Medical Support was very present the first half, however, after Misfit-7 disconnected Medical support was practically non-existent, recommend choosing a secondary medical support team/role or ensuring that each squad has a dedicated CLS, especially when squad sizes were so low and enemy contact was high
  • Could have used more guidance on the Platoon level, OP felt very disjointed and squads did not move in line with each other most of the time
  • Route of attack for last objective was extremely difficult which led to multiple mass-cas situations and in turn resulted in multiple security breaches after objective was seized. Would have recommended either FRAGO-ing a different attack vector or endexing right there.

For operational objectives of this size we would need some combination of larger squads, more squads, an armor attachment, air support, proper scaling of enemy forces once the size of friendly forces was realized, or even shifting to a different plan of attack (which is hard once an operation starts). All that being said, everyone had a lot of fun, myself included, and I look forward to more OPs of similar scope (just with more people).

Pros:
  • Was able to do a lot in the way of finding taskings. Did some good shooting behind friendly positions at far targets with mounted weapons and the M1101. Need that 7.62 to knock through the mystical Ratnik Level-V plates.
  • Ended up doing a lot of combat work to support friendly forces, some tense shootouts ensused.
  • Got to do some demolitions training (sadly demolitions do not work on Hamland, bad map config).
Cons:
  • Friendly forces were stretched way too thin which is how we got caught up in gunfights and got two black tags in the team.
  • HMMWVs had trouble with the hills, were unable to keep up with the platoon during the hill fight and ended the operation trying to unstick one of our trucks.
  • Blue-on-blue was genuinely terrible this op. We had ten separate instances of friendlies killing other friendlies before the kill feed was turned off.

Pros:
  • Squad fought and maneuvered well in the woods moving to the first objective.
  • I got to help a new fireteam leader learn the ropes. Helping people learn and have fun is the biggest pro of all.
  • Had issues with radio but were able to use prox chat to relay messages.
Cons:
  • Clearing two giant apartment buildings back to back was a monumental task for one squad.
  • Friendly fire incidents, even I am guilty of listening to a bad call out and shooting somebody this time (sorry CPT Rodahl)
  • Target fled a trooper who had him at gunpoint and ran behind another squad, the command was notified of the targets location but the unit proceeded forward for some reason.
