Pros
  • Good comms and teamwork within Squad and Misfit-2, Atlas units
  • Good platoon movement and communication between squads
Cons
  • Question of exclusion of brief to troopers and utilization of convoy net
  • Due to mission scale, it seemed hasty to push through uncleared contacts (M1 low man power)

Pros
  • Communication from platoon downwards was solid.
  • Succession.
  • Accountability.
  • Overall discipline and perimeter security.
  • Clear intent and orders.
Cons
  • Scope was many times too large for a platoon.
  • Desync caused unnecessary casualties in CQC.
  • People are trying to treat black tag casualties. Not tenable with the new bleed out timer.

Pros
  • Good & responsive coms with ATLAS
  • Good SITREPS and reports given by ATLAS
  • Self/Buddy aid was ok
Cons
  • One ATLAS team didn't get much work despite my best efforts to reposition them
  • CCP's were difficult to maintain with the tempo of this operation, we should have just dispatched.
  • No convoy net used when multiple elements (not on the platoon net) were in the convoy.
  • "Repeat Last" called over Platoon Net instead of "Say again"
  • ACE Hearing is very broken and should be disabled for the time being

Pros
  • Good comms and teamwork within Platoon, Air, and Atlas units
  • Good platoon movement and communication between squads
  • Aviation units were able to keep heavy targets away from the sight of infantry
  • Buffalo 1 & 2 were quick to respond to calls for reinsert and were swift with reinsert actions
Cons
  • Danger close fire came from Buffalo units near Atlas-1
  • Due to the mission scale, it seemed hasty to push through uncleared contacts

Element leader: Colonel LaCombe.M - Misfit-6

7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:
Staff Sergeant Willson.JA - Misfit-5
Sergeant Blake.H - Misfit-7
Corporal Kastor.K - Chaos-1

Pros:
  • Great intra-platoon comms, squads worked together seamlessly often without need for direct orders
  • Fluid movement as a platoon through an objective designed more for a larger unit
    • Platoon maintained movement discipline and stayed in a cohesive unit consistently in mutually supporting ranges and no one became isolated
  • Great work by A/1-7 as a whole. The infantry did not even sniff an enemy air asset or enemy QRF which was vital with the scope of terrain we were tasked to clear on the ground. If we did not have Alpha with us, there's no way this mission would have worked.
  • The fact that we cleared this objective as cleanly as we did is a major pro and heavily outweighs the cons. Squad leads and A/1-7 did amazing work
Cons (with solutions/reasonings as indicated based on general AAR feedback):
  • Mission scope for ground forces way too large, especially factoring in MOUT
  • Could not hail Pegasus on command net
  • Platoon HQ became split up due to fog of war but it luckily didn't cause any major issues
  • Fixed wing grounded for extended period at mission start due to radio issues
    • We knew prior to kickoff that ground forces would be waiting for Alpha to clear the skies and complete initial objectives to permit ground movement, but that unexpected delay caused additional headaches. I pushed the movement phase early to compensate for it.
    • S3 is aware
  • Hearing issues (tinnitus was excessive)
    • Noted and will be disabled by S3 as a temp fix
  • CCPs uprooted too quickly
    • Not necessarily a con, more of an annoyance, just mission flow was quicker than expected and we ended up not staying put in any one place for too long. Noted nonetheless and mid-op I tried to stop using them as a quick fix.
  • Decision to exclude non-leadership from leader's briefing
    • This was due to feedback from prior ops requesting that we revert back to this (used to be the standard years ago) because briefings were getting sidetracked and people were not muting their mics. I'll continue to canvass the battalion for input on this to determine the best approach.
  • Decision to not use convoy net
    • Mentioned during AAR but I was advised people could not monitor so many radio nets and rather than getting that all sorted just before we moved out, I decided to scrap them entirely since it was a short drive rather than an extended/convoluted convoy and decided platoon net would suffice. Now realizing that Atlas was excluded from that, and hindsight being 20/20, we should have used a convoy net so I'll keep that in mind for next time.
