DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY S3 BATTLE STAFF
Headquarters 7th Cavalry Regiment COMBAT AFTER ACTION REPORT
Headquarters 7th Cavalry Regiment COMBAT AFTER ACTION REPORT
Operation Name: OPERATION SHATTERED ANVIL
Date of Operation: 24OCT26
Start Time: 2130Z | End Time: 2300Z
Target AO: Nyx System — QV Extraction Station Outcome:
FAILURE — CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF CAPITAL FLEET
Element Callsign: Task Force Group TSG Element Leader: SPC. Monk. M (ATLAS-6)
7th Cavalry Personnel Within Element:
- Atlas (Non-7Cav Visitor / Guest Pilot)
- Private Sabre.K (Departed early prior to main engagement)
- Specialist Centurion.K
- Captain Maco.D
- Specialist Fricker.R
- Specialist Randall.L
- Specialist Monk.M
- SPC. Centurion. K: Highlighted a vital technical correction from previous runs. Previous operations relied on energy weapons for the trench run, which suffered severe capacitor drain due to distortion fields. Action Item: Future trench runs must strictly utilize ballistic weapon loadouts.
- SPC. Randall. L: Noted that initial phase execution can be streamlined. Action Item: Utilize heavier capital assets to chew through initial station resistance faster before transitioning to light fighter sweeps.
- Capt. Maco. D: Acknowledged positive unit morale ("vibes good") despite a 1-hour late start and adverse outcome.
- SPC. Fricker. R: Recommended adjusting standard operation times. Pushing future Friday/Saturday step-off to 0000Z will accommodate attendance lags, ensure full participation, and prevent late-arrival friction. Furthermore, secondary mission parameters (salvage, medical extraction) must be more clearly defined in the OPORD deck so elements have fallback objectives if primary assault vectors fail.
- Tactical Execution & Capital Loss: Pilots flew capital hulls directly inside the active engagement envelope of heavy anti-capital point-defense turrets without prior snub suppression, resulting in total hull loss and mission failure by 2300Z.
- Attendance & Scheduling: Late starts and early departures (Sabre) fractured unit cohesion. Trooper feedback indicates the current sign-up spreadsheet format is overly complex and requires complete restructuring ("scrapped"). Minimum priority criteria must be enforced; if minimum manning cuts are not met, operations must be rescheduled rather than forced.
- Communications: Internal and tactical radio nets devolved into chaos during the capital engagement due to cross-talk and lack of strict sector discipline.
- Command & Control (OIC Doctrine Reform): It is suggested The OIC must maintain a "30,000-foot view" from the bridge or CIC, delegating navigation entirely to the Helm (Pilot) and firing solutions to Tactical (TAC). S3 must develop a formal bridge management system to enforce this separation of duties.
- Recruitment & Retention: Command must establish a standardized, low-barrier pipeline to recruit and train new members to bolster active flight rosters.
