Briefing:
Established in 1962, Khe Sanh Combat Base was constructed to keep watch on PAVN forces infiltrating across the Vietnamese DMZ and protect the local population from the PAVN and VC. With the escalation of the war in Vietnam, Australia has decided to dedicate a large number of troops to the cause and has assembled a number of battalions under the Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) to be attached to US forces operating in South Vietnam.
One of these battalions, 7 RAR, has been assigned to the Khe Sanh Combat Base to assist US Marines with clearing operations. Local intelligence has gathered that a number of PAVN infiltrators and VC leaders have assembled a number of weapons caches south of the base around the village of Lapoung with the 7 RAR selected to move into the jungle and destroy these positions.
