Militants are holding a citadel overlooking the city, ruins of ancient Palmyra, and the airport. This provides them with a potent position from which to fire manpads, mortars, or AAA. While the citadel is a heritage site, it’s critical for mission success to clear of it enemy fighters before Cowboy-1 can attack the runway. Hornet-1 is tasked with this target and the site of suspected chemical weapons storage.
Rotary-1 is tasked with destruction of two known nearby compounds used to house militants and launch raids of terror against local populations.
