    GRANITE PALADIN

    This is Task Force 15-8

TF 15-8 is a subdivision of a larger Joint Special Missions Task Force (Task Force 15-1 which oversees strategic intelligence operations worldwide) under control of Other Government Agencies on behalf of Commonwealth Nations (UK, US, CA, AU, and NZ). TF 15-8 is responsible for the Eastern part of Afghanistan including Logar, Ghazni, Paktia, Khowst, and Paktika provinces. TF 15-8 is based in Kabul, Afghanistan and operates out of Forward Operating Bases and Mission Support Sites in and around the AO.

TF 15-8 conducts HVI Targeting, Counter IED Operations, Counter Threat Finance, and Combat Search And Rescue. The Lines of Operation are named after the closures for containers, including CORK, TOP, CAP, and LID. TF 15-8 is a combat support unit, TF 15-8 is not a direct action force. Kinetic (AKA seek and destroy) operations will be authorized on a case by case basis by the SECDEF through the CJCS.

    CORK
HVI Targeting is the responsibility of the CORK team that consists of Army Operations Group personnel, USAF PJ’s for standby Casualty Collection, and Individual Augmentees from the 7th Cav for security. The mission for CORK specifically is intelligence collection meant to develop actionable information on the locations, activities, and pattern of life of HVIs to pass to special forces (e.g. SEALS, SF, Rangers, etc.).

    TOP
Counter IED operations are the responsibility of the TOP Line. TOP Consists of Rangers, Nightstalkers, USAF PJs, USAF/ARMY/USN EOD, and Individual Augmentees from the 7th Cav for security. The mission for TOP is the collection of actionable intelligence on the location and transport of weapons and explosives through the AO, and serves as the Task Force Weapons Intelligence Team collecting post-blast evidence and identifying the source of weapons supplies.

    CAP
The CAP team conducts Counter Threat-Finance intelligence and operations. CAP's primary mission is to seize or neutralize financial instruments and assets being used to support Taliban, AQ and other insurgencies in the AO. CAP conducts is mission through a contingent of U.S. Army 902MI and CID Agents, supported by Augmentees from the U.S. Secret Service and FBI. 7th Cav Individual Augmentees are assigned to this element for intelligence analysis, collection, and security operations.

    LID
LID is a dedicated Combat Search and Rescue and Engineering element with civilian and military medical personnel and engineers dedicated to supporting TF 15-8. LID's primary mission is to work out in the gym, grab coffee, and practice giving each other IVs. It's secondary mission is to make sure you come home alive at all costs when the merde hits the ventalateur.

    Scenario:

The Haqqani Network ("HQN") is an organized crime group headquartered in the FATA along the AF-PAK border between Miram Shah, Pakistan and Khowst, Afghanistan. HQN primarily functions as a guerilla or underground network serving any group willing to pay. To that end they operate both logistics and training of fighters, IED cells, and suicide bombers for both the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Pakistan and facilitate their movement into and out of Afghanistan.

An Army Operations Group ("AOG") Unit of Action has identified with high probability that an HQN Tier 1 or Tier 0 personality has moved a cell into Khowst Afghanistan just across the border from Miram Shah and driven out the local villagers in preparation for facilitating the movement of AQ or Taliban fighters into the AO. AOG has recruited a human access agent asset among the local population. The AOG asset has placed a UHF beacon about the HVI that must be activated by sending it a wakeup signal using special equipment.

A Special Mission Task Force (“TF 15-8”) has hastily rehabilitated FOB Salerno to conduct HVI targeting operations in the area south of Kabul including Logar, Gazni, Paktia, Khowst, and Paktika provinces for the CORK Line Of Operations ("LOO") targeting HQI, Taliban, and AQ HVIs. TF 15-8 consists of an AOG element supported by Individual Augmentees from the 1-7, and a USAF CSAR team. TF 15-8 has set up a forward operations area operating between Border Control Points (“BCP”) 1 and 2 to detect and interdict movement of HVIs across the border. A Platoon from Echo Company has been established as a Quick Reaction Force from FOB Salerno and attached to the Task Force.

A counterintelligence investigation has disclosed that an unidentified insider threat (InTh) has been passing critical elements of friendly information to HQN leaders in order to assist with evading detection by coalition forces. There is a high risk that the location and intent of Task Force operators are being sent to enemy combatants through cellular or Thuraya TXT/SMS messages from the InTh at FOB Salerno.

NOTE: BURNING is the first Operation in the CORK Line under TF 15-8 for Campaign GRANITE PALADIN. The 15-8 lines are named after the closures for containers. (CORK=HVI Targeting TOP=Counter IED CAP=Counter Threat-Finance LID=CSAR) TF 15-8 BURNING CORK is being monitored by the SECDEF and CJC live. Status updates must be passed by Radio or Text Chat by the Ground Force Commander (DRAGON) to the Tactical Operations Center at FOB Salerno (to the Operation Controller).

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Mission for Echo Company:
    1. An AOG Unit of Action consisting of three personnel will emplace a SIGINT suite (consisting of 3x radios) that performs radio frequency direction finding (RF/DF) across the Area of Operations. The nature of this suite has been concealed from the enemy (a beacon was actually not successfully emplaced on the HVI and was a ruse to ensure the InTh continued to send messages revealing the HVI's location) - each time a TXT/SMS message is sent by the InTh it causes a handshake with the target device that can be triangulated by the SIGINT suite - so all three units must be defended until triangulation occurs (respawns allowed for both sides during this phase).

    2. Once the HVI location is identified, TF 15-8 has may be authorized to KILL or KILL/CAPTURE the HVI (respawns except HVI allowed - HVI respawns as fighter 1x) - The KILL/CAPTURE or ESCAPE of the HVI begins a ONE LIFE EVENT for score.

    3. As a secondary objective, TF 15-8 should cause maximum degradation to the HQI cell's operational efficiency (during one life event).

    4. TF 15-8 must successfully break contact and return to BCP 1 or BCP 2 where the OPFOR dare not go with as few casualties as possible (concluding one life event).

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Winning Conditions:
BLUFOR must maintain positive score at Mission Complete to “win”.
Each Radio/SIGINT suite until identifying the HVI - 5 points EA.
Each Radio/SIGINT suite operational or taken down by BLUFOR after at Mission Complete - bonus 1 point EA.
Each RADIO/SIGINT suite lost after HVI/at RTB - 0 bonus points EA.
HVI Killed - 25 points - begins ONE LIFE PHASE.
HVI Escaped - 0 points - begins ONE LIFE PHASE.
Each HQN cell member killed during ONE LIFE PHASE- 1 point EA.
Each BLUFOR killed during ONE LIFE PHASE- (negative 5 point EA).
Missing timely status updates through HQ - (negative 5 points EA)

    Scenario:
On at 030030Z JUN 18 [00:30 June 3, 2018 (UTC)], Task Force 15-8 initiated Operation BURNING under the Line CORK. The operation was intended to target a High Value Individual (“HVI”) working for the Haqqani Network (“HQN”) in and around the Afghanistan-Pakistan (“AF-PAK”) border between Khowst Provence in Afghanistan and Miram Shah in Pakistan.

Operators from TF 15-8 successfully implanted Radio Frequency/Direction Finding (“RF/DF”) equipment that identified the location of an HVI just across the border. An Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (“ISR”) RQ-1 (Unarmed Predator Drone) observed insurgent activity at a compound in and around Grid D8-7-7 before departing the AOR to refuel.

With the speed at which the HVI was identified, no other assets were able to pivot into the AOR to assist in a direct-action to prevent the HVI’s escape. In addition, persistent weather problems caused up to date maps of the area to be unavailable, which increased the difficulty of planning and executing an ambush on the HVI returning to Pakistan. As a result, TF 15-8 suffered minor casualties and the HVI successfully escaped.

Since BURNING CORK, TF 15-8 has kept constant ISR coverage on the compound where the HVI was located, at D8-7-7. No significant activity has been observed. TF 15-8 J2 assesses with moderate confidence that there is a high likelihood of insurgent forces being unaware that TF 15-8 has identified that compound. The J2 also assesses that there may be residual electronics, documents, equipment, or weapons at the compound that could be of intelligence value.

TF 15-8, operating from Border Control Point ("BCP") 1 (CheckPoint Alpha) and BCP 2 (USA Main) on the AF-PAK border must conduct a Sensitive Site Exploitation (Battlefield Crime Scene Investigation, also known as "SSE") of that safe house to develop further information about the transfer of IED and UXO precursors into Afghanistan.

The AOG’s SSE technicians must be escorted to the safe house and recover any electronics, media, or documents, and return to BCP 1 or BCP 2 (either of TF 15-8’s FBs) with that information for analysis, forensics, translation and exploitation.

    This is a RESPAWNABLE event.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Mission for Echo Company:

    1. A TF 15-8 Unit of Action must conduct SSE on the target compound (find and remove the radio in the target compound).

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Winning Conditions:
BLUFOR must complete the SSE on the target compound by removing the radio emplacement within 30 minutes.

    Scenario:

The 75th Rangers, a Nightstalkers contingent, a USAF CSAR element, and Individual Augmentees from the 1-7 currently are conducting counter IED operations out of Jalalabad, Afghanistan under TF 15-8 Line of Operations (“LOO”) TOP.

Task Force 15-8 conducted Operations BURNING CORK and ANGRY CORK in Khowst province on a suspected High Value Individual ("HVI") from the Haqqani Network ("HQN"). The HVI was suspected of brokering Unexploded Ordinance (mines, bombs, and RPGs) from the Russian Invasion of Afghanistan to local warlords. Unfortunately, both operations did not produce any new information of intelligence value and the transfer of IEDs was never confirmed.

TF 15-8's AOG element has recruited a local source for intelligence collection. According to this source, the weapons for the local insurgents are being moved through safe houses in Logar, north of Khowst. The source indicated that the transfer of IEDs from the HQN has already taken place several days ago.

The TF 15-8 J2 assesses with high confidence that the local insurgents have had ample time to unpack and rearm themselves from this shipment. J2 assesses that the availability of IEDs, mines, and RPGs have significantly increased in this AOR because this shipment was not interdicted during transport. The remaining materiel will be likely be shipped onward to local warlords that wish to resist Afghan government forces throughout eastern and southern Afghanistan. The AOG's source indicates that this is going to happen either tonight or tomorrow morning.

As a result the TF 15-8 Commander has directed a Ground Assault Force (“GAF”) already a few Kilometers from the target area returning from a day time patrol in Logar to pivot from their extraction at the Mission Support Site (“MSS”) and recon, verify the presence of the cache, and then blow it in place (“BIP”) to avoid it being relocated before a full mission can be launched. As a result of the immediate pivot while waiting for extraction by CH-47s at the MSS, the GAF is not equipped for night operations.

Because no other intelligence was developed prior to this mission on which compound held the IED cache, the GAF will have to take photographs of the cache before and after for target validation and battle damage assessment ("BDA") slowing the pace of actions on the objective. This will also increase the risk of a counterattack while waiting for approvals.

There is a possibility of multiple caches being held in the surrounding area, however the HQN cache is of primary concern because it is likely to hold AT and AP RPG rounds, IEDs, and IED precursors. A failure to identify or BIP the HQN IED cache specifically could result in a severe uptick in IED events in this AO.

    This is a RESPAWN event.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Mission for Echo Company:

TF 15-8 must identify and recon the HQN IED weapons cache, blow it in place, and then conduct a battle damage assessment.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Winning Conditions:

    1. BLUFOR must take all of the following actions on the correct weapons cache:
    2. BLUFOR must take a picture of the weapons cache before gaining authorization to blow it, and provide it to the TF 15-8 TOC (Operation Controller/Lead) over in-game command radio (notify TF 15-8 TOC by radio, and request authorization to BIP the cache).
    3. BLUFOR must blow the weapons cache after getting authorization from the TF 15-8 TOC.
    4. BLUFOR must take a picture of the weapons cache after the BIP by providing notice to the TF 15-8 TOC by in-game command radio, and requesting a BDA.
    5. BLUFOR must complete all actions within 45 minutes.

    Spoiler to Map:

    Scenario:

This is JTF 101. An AUS-GBR-USA joint task force conducting engagement and reconstruction to counter the influence of the Islamic State ("ISI") in Iraq ("ISIZ") hold outs in southern Iraq. JTF-101 has an embedded Australian DIO representative from Task Force 15-1 that passed the following information:

Task Force 15-8 recently concluded a counter-IED operation in Logar Province, AFG that identified several stores of IED precursors and small arms being supplied to the Taliban through a criminal group known as the Haqqani Network (the "HQN"). Upon confirming the destruction of these caches, a Weapons Intelligence Team ("WIT") stayed behind and conducted Site Exploitation recovering evidence that changes the focus of our current engagement.

The evidence shows that the weapons being smuggled into Afghanistan have serial numbers and manufacturing marks consistent with newer supplies. While these weapons are trickling into Afghanistan, WITs have identified that the material appears to be getting resold by ISI elements in Iraq including ISIZ in the south and ISIS in the north. Since these weapons are being brought in by the HQN from Pakistan rather than across Iran, intelligence predicts with high confidence that it is highly likely these weapons are being smuggled out through Iraq's port city of Al Basrah before being brought into Pakistan through Karachi.

A JTF 101 detachment of GBR troops is operating out of a tactical air field just to the north of a petroleum storage and transfer port, on the south east side of Al Basrah. This force was primarily acting as a blocking element for the engagement and reconstruction efforts to the north and west.

Today JTF 101 gets a FRAGO.

    This is a RESPAWN event.

    The Mission for Echo Company:

JTF 101 is to conduct checkpoint and vehicle interdiction operations on the North-South MSR from the petroleum refinery and construct an Observation Post/Listening Post ("LP/OP") at the refinery. If ISI has set up operations in the refinery, then they must be destroyed.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Winning Conditions:

    1. BLUFOR must conduct a Forward Area Defense and prevent or eliminate 2x Logistical trucks traveling the North/South MSR prior to OPFOR conducting 10x "supply runs" (round trips) between G-3K5 and G-7K3. OPFOR must conduct a Mobile Defense of its resupply route and complete 10x "supply runs" between G-2K5 and G-7K3 using one (1x) logi truck at a time.

1.a BLUFOR ROE: BLUFOR may not engage north of Latitude Grids 3K4/5/6 (Parallel with the Airfield). This puts fire toward friendly and non-combatants to the North of the AO. Multiple infractions will lose this objective for BLUFOR.

1.b OPFOR ROE: OPFOR must use the North/South MSR and ASRs in Longitude Grids F and G only. The supplies must be delivered quickly they are getting moved out soon, no time to do a long flank around the map. Multiple infractions will lose this objective for OPFOR.

    2. BLUFOR must establish and conduct an Area Defense of a HAB within the main refinery compound at G-7K9&6 for 20 minutes. OPFOR must prevent BLUFOR from establishing a HAB until the mission timer runs out, or destroy the HAB prior to the 20 minute clock expiring.

    3. OPFOR must establish and conduct an Area Defense of a Spawn Bunker within the main refinery compound at G-7K9&6 for 20 minutes. BLUFOR must prevent OPFOR from establishing a Spawn Bunker until the mission timer runs out, or destroy the Spawn Bunker prior to the 20 minute clock expiring.
