    Specialist Peter Krieger

Specialist Peter Krieger distinguished himself by extraordinary acts of heroism, gallantry and intrepidity while serving as an infantryman in the 7th Cavalry Regiment during combat operations on Omaha Beach on 09JUN19. During the early morning amphibious assault onto Omaha Beach, the 7th Cavalry Regiment was suffering heavy losses from machine-gun fire from several heavily fortified bunker positions along the coastline. While the main body his company was pinned down, Specialist Peter Krieger was able to deploy concealment from a handheld smoke grenade and advance, under withering enemy fire, up to a fortified bunker position. Specialist Peter Krieger was then able to breach the bunker and, despite suffering several gunshot wounds to his upper torso, clear the structure of all hostile forces. This single act of heroism opened the beachhead for allied forces to continue inland to secure Pointe du Hoc. Specialist Peter Kreiger's heroism, skill and devotion to duty is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the 7th Cavalry Regiment.
