oh Boy. There is a bit to unpack here. Let me take a shot if I may.

TeamSpeak3 and this Forum is our bread and butter. Discord is just quality of life thing. Discord is mainly used as a lounge or mobile program to instantly chat with people using your phone. Lets say, at work. We are not phasing out Team Speak any time soon as far as I know.

True...which is why I don't understand why we would downgrade to kindergarten level of comms. Might as well just stay on the in-game comms if that's the case.

This is an issue. Tac1 has been a bit slow lately and has been not receiving as much care as it should. If you have a problem, harass the Operators online. It is their job to help you, or find some one who can.

Agreed. Tac1 is picking up pretty good, but quite slow in past recent months. It receives good care from the JB and Dakota, but the rules are simply NOT enforced at all.

As for the "air" and "ground" channels. I don't know why those were added, probably just thinking that options would help organize communication flow. There mainly was a need to have a channel for ground forces to talk that didn't interfere with air chatter. I use the ground channel to scream "frag out" and "contact 100m 3-o-clock!" Not to call in pick up requests. I do that in chat.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why you would need to add a teamspeak "air" channel and "ground" channel when you already have that provided in the game itself. How does that not negate the in game chat and moreover, how does that improve comm efficiency? This needs to be reversed because it's already in the in-game chat already. Now, the unintended result is that nobody even bothers with TS and just uses the in-game chat, which for pilots muddies up communications. Brevity is also completely lost.

Team Speak, Enforce the Rules, Report violations, Good comms, etc. etc.

Team Speak is the law...enforce the law. And I would strongly suggest deleting the "sub-channels" on TS for air and ground as they have proven to be worthless.

    *** My ORIGINAL post***

I'm confused a little bit. 7thCav is promoting Discord on the website, so is this officially abandoning Teamspeak in favor of Discord? I don't get why we would fix something that isn't broken.
Also, in Teamspeak, 7thCav has added the "Air" channel which has basically rendered it useless, since now that it was added, we just use the in-game chat. So this renders the ATC role a joke. Pilots can't communicate effectively over ground forces. --->Radio chatter overrides necessary communications. Nobody is abiding by the 7thCav rules for operators to be on TS and these rules are not being enforced whatsoever. So once again, I don't get why to fix something that isn't broken. I always used TS in such a way that I would also listen to ground troops (in-game chat) to try to accommodate their transport requests.

With respect, I'm asking these questions to clarify, since I want to remain inside the rules and conduct and understand the logic or ill-logic in this. Teamspeak or Discord, enforce the rules or not, report violations, good efficient comms or not etc. etc.

    Thank you.

Just to clarify the first point, Discord is not used for in game comms. We use it as an additional communication method, as well as a place just to hang out, besides TeamSpeak and the forums.

Major, I understand. I just am increasingly getting in-game comms saying something along the lines of "Hey, xyz needs heavy lift or ammo or transport or whatever" and I never heard it on TS or in-game and I'm like- why didn't they just ask for it and it would have been en route. And then they say "oh, I'm on discord" so it seems to override TS and in-game comms. It is being used for in-direct in-game communications which results in delay and secondary advised communication and that results in muddy/sloppy operations. My opinion respectfully sir.

If these individuals are public players that refuse to get in TS and just stay in Discord, then there is little we can do unless they choose to fill a support slot like pilot or artillery (at which point they would be in violation of Arma 3 ROE #3 or #4). However, if they are Cav members that are not using TeamSpeak while in the Public Server, then they would be in violation of TeamSpeak Policy #1 at which point an MP could resolve the issue.

    Just my 2 cents.

Unless of course you're saying they're in TeamSpeak and Discord both and just refusing to use TeamSpeak.

Our discord does not have any voice channels for public players (besides the recruiting offices). I do not know if you are familiar with discord, but it is essentially just a text based chat lobby.

The Cav discord server and policies really do not encourage or facilitate people using it for in game comms. If they are, it seems like an incredibly inefficient choice.

Obviously groups of friends who play on our server may have their own discord, but Cav members would be required to be present on TeamSpeak anyway. It isn't in our purview to try and control what public players do outside of our game servers, but I do feel we facilitate good in game communication with the services we provide (we can take a look at the seperate ground and air TS channels).

Sgt. I completely agree, however on Tac1, on numerous (and I mean numerous) occasions I have been advised by a third party that stated something along the lines of "I'm on discord and xyz is requesting xyz." So I can personally attest that it is being used as an indirect communication platform which is improper. This leads to confusion, delay, and terrible continuity of operations.

Major Tully, I completely understand, and I understand that outside communications may not be within your purview, just like a phone call or a text message isn't either. I was simply letting you know that this is an issue because it obstructs operations. Also, Major, with respect sir, the air and ground channels have rendered TS worthless. Operators simply ARE NOT using TS as they are required. Why use TS (as an operator, as the rules [SOP] require) when you can just use the in game chat? Things were much better before these separate channels were added due to the fact that no operators even bother with TS anymore, they just go with the in-game chat on Tac1.

If these are Cav members doing this (using discord only and / or refusing to use TS), next time you see it, reach out to an MP and see if they can resolve it as it is a violation of ROE and / or TeamSpeak Policy. Again, if just pubbers in infantry slots... little can be done.

Exactly Captain Tharen, nothing has officially changed in the ROE. Just the fact that the execution of the ROE has gone lax, unnoticed, and certainly unenforced. MPs are many times unavailable so the rules can't be enforced. I am a former police officer for almost a decade, so I would love to take on this role at some point. It is NOT helping our memberships. It is crystal clear in Cav's ROE that operators must be on TS3, yet on TAC1, this is a daily violation and disappointment.

    Written with respect Captain.

All good! MP’s can probably add more to the discussion, but please feel free to contact any MP in TS if you witness any ROE/TS violations. Thank you for caring about Tac1 and playing!

There are many admins other than just MPs.
    Game Server Admin:
    • Officer grades O-1 (2nd Lieutenant) and above.
    • Non-commissioned grades E-5 (Sergeant) and above.
    • Warrant Officer grades W-2 (Chief Warrant Officer 2) and above.
    • Personnel billeted in RTC/MP/S2/CID/JAG, regardless of grade.
    • Personnel billeted in S3 Arma Public Staff, minimum grade of E-4 (Corporal).
    • For personnel billeted in Starter Platoon (Post Scriptum), minimum grade of E-4 (Corporal).
MPs are the volunteers who are happy to stop what they are doing and deal with the issues first. However if you can't find any, the above comes into play for public server issues.

    This!
If Cav members aren't on TS while in game this is a direct violation of article 1 of the TeamSpeak code of conduct.
    1. Presence in TeamSpeak.
    1. All 7th Cavalry personnel are required to be present in the TeamSpeak server during game-play on any and all official 7th Cavalry public and private game servers.
Spirit of the Rule: This is to facilitate accountability of action, communication and enable the Admin staff to immediately recognize outsiders posing as 7th Cavalry personnel.

It's often forgotten that officers and senior NCOs are expected to act as admin, unless occupied and not able, e.g. conducting a training, while MPs are the go to people there are others that can and should be responding to concerns.

Anyone who has taken on these responsibilities and refuses to perform their duty will be demoted and removed from these responsibilities. Being in the middle of playing a game is not an excuse to refuse either.

Exactly sir... I just would like to see the rules enforced in a fair and balanced way; and enforced in a way that will drive membership instead of diminishing it. Just my thoughts LT. I have witnessed this many times...do I need to Nvidia record (or otherwise record) to get this issue solved? I like "slam dunks" as opposed to "he said-she said" or 'my word against his.'

The only thing you need to do is when you see it happening, reach out to an MP, and if one isn't on TS, reach out to someone like myself (a Sergeant) or higher in rank as we have the authority and responsibility to ensure rules are followed. One of us or an MP will then reach out to whoever is breaching the rules and ensure they start abiding by them.

You have been, several times in this thread already:

I feel like it's been explained to you enough with regards on how to deal with it.

Discord is also not supported in terms of game sever communication. If any public or cav members are suggesting that to you, then follow the above suggestions.

    Teamspeak is not going anywhere.

The air channel is meant for aircraft communication and CTAF.
You would still use in-game chat to talk to ground units
Same thing with the ground channel. It's used for more advanced communication.
If people are telling you that we use discord for VOIP, they're wrong.
Also keep in mind that not everyone communicates and some resort to chat.
Anyone if you have an issue, grab anyone at the rank of SGT+ or 2LT+ and they'll be obligated to help you.

Fantastic! Not only did you prove my point for me but made my case. You need to explain with more depth to be credible.
