Pros

  • Was a very good vertical slice of the role of PSG with a little bit of all taskings. Westcott learnt a lot about managing radios and 5's various taskings. Looking forward to him stepping up into the role.
  • Good work with Buffalo, thank you to Whitehead for stepping up to Buffalo to fill that deficit.
  • Convoy movement was executed very well, a nice immersive start to the OP
  • Nice to play on this terrain again.
  • Lots of tasking for Atlas
  • Zeus' place contact very well and kept things engaging, with the convoy ambush and on the second half of the operation.
  • Really liked the RP when it did happen.
  • Robbi's Scottish Accent
Cons
  • An amount of blue on blue and a very disoriented clearing of the forest. Enemy enveloped us in multiple occasions. Perhaps a platoon line instead of an L-shape would have been more appropriate
  • We didn't deliver any humanitarian aid or succeed in our secondary objective due to multiple factors:
    • Civilians killed, early civilian casualties made the civilians uncommunicative and almost (understandably) hostile
    • The friendly truck was destroyed with the humanitarian aid
    • Civilians in Arma 3 don't act appropriately to situations
    • Zeus' were filled with tasking so initial civilians were not communicative. Can this be solved by having pre-scripted interaction / drop off in a box? It's difficult for the zeus' to manage the COIN ops
    • We didn't need to barge in and hard clear these people's houses when no contact was taken
  • Multiple levels of incongruence with the mission parameters, the contact level and existing 7Cav doctrine. It feels like there's too much contact for the level of civilian presence in the AO. A civilian evac tasking might have been more appropriate as the location was an active warzone.

COMBAT AFTER ACTION REPORT

Pros
  • Solid step-off time.
  • Convoy to the checkpoint was above-average quality (not perfect, but definitely above average).
  • Checkpoint operations themselves were conducted very well. This is awesome, as checkpoint operations are a mission profile we typically don't conduct or maintain an SOP for.
  • SSE conducted at the OPFOR Patrol Base was lucrative.
Cons
  • Civilian casualties were more than what is expected for an operation. Some casualties due to "arma-isms" and less-than-intelligent AI are to be expected. However, there were some rather egregious accounts from mission controllers tonight. (See second conn as well).
  • Once again, there was a distinct lack of individual soldier discipline from certain troopers. This is entirely unacceptable. This is becoming a recurring trend, especially in a public setting, and needs to be addressed outside of Operations on a case-by-case basis.
  • The scope of this operation at the moment felt very broad. Planning for the execution of a humanitarian objective, checkpoint security operation, SSE, and HUMINT operation among the populace, and staging for a FRAGO'ed hasty assault simultaneously was a bit unrealistic for the scope of a singular platoon. My suggestion would be to roll the checkpoint security and HUMINT/humanitarian work into one scripted event (having civilians arrive at the checkpoint to receive supplies in exchange for information) and then conduct EVAC for those civs and transition to a counter-assault. This would have provided a more distinct and linear mission profile and been easier to plan around.
Additional comments:
On-site BDA indicates the destruction of all fortifications and equipment at the OPFOR patrol base.
SSE provided a 1x Comms supply crate, which was returned to the checkpoint via HMMWV during break-contact for decryption.
