DESCRIPTION:For the past several weeks\, Coalition intelligence has tracked increased activity associated with Syria's chemical weapons program in the Damascus area. Surveillance has identified movement between known military installations south of the capital and a suspected underground storage complex in the surrounding high ground. Intelligence assesses that chemical agents\, technical records\, and personnel connected to the program are being consolidated ahead of an anticipated dispersal.

Recent reporting has identified a secured facility immediately south of Damascus as a principal storage and administrative site. Senior program personnel are believed to be present\, along with documentation and other material of intelligence value. A separate cave complex has been assessed as a probable hardened chemical weapons storage site. The extent of the underground facility is unknown\, and conventional strikes are unlikely to reliably neutralize it.

Coalition Command has authorized a coordinated strike and exploitation operation against the Damascus network. F-14B(U)\, F-16\, and F/A-18 aircraft will conduct precision strikes against designated military targets in the capital. Following their attacks\, the package will establish TARCAP east of Damascus to intercept Syrian aircraft attempting to reinforce the area or disrupt operations south of the city.

Concurrent with the fixed-wing strikes\, CH-47s will insert SFOD-D at the southern facility to conduct sensitive site exploitation. The assault force is tasked with securing designated personnel and recovering documents\, equipment\, and other intelligence associated with the chemical weapons program. AH-64s will provide escort and armed overwatch for the assault force\, while A-10s will interdict Syrian ground forces responding to the objective.

At the same time\, a C-130 will conduct a heavy ordnance strike against the suspected underground storage complex\, using a GBU-43/B to collapse or deny the facility before its contents can be removed.

The operation is built around a single coordinated window. The Damascus strikes are intended to disrupt the Syrian command structure and draw its air response while the southern objectives are attacked and exploited. Once the operation is detected\, Syrian air and ground forces are expected to respond in strength. SFOD-D must complete exploitation and extraction before that response can be concentrated against the objective area.
