THE SILVER STAR MEDAL
[IMG]
Is awarded to

First Lieutenant Kyle York

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while under direct enemy fire serving as Platoon Sergeant in the 7th Cavalry Regiment during combat operations in Vietnam on 11APR20. First Lieutenant Kyle York was notified that there were two resupply boxes helicopters had just dropped off but were not able to be retrieved due to heavy direct enemy sniper fire. Lieutenant York, at great personal risk and under direct enemy fire, crawled 150 meters towards one of the supply boxes. Lieutenant York was able to successfully retrieve the first supply box, but was wounded multiple times in the process. Ignoring his own wounds, and still under enemy fire, Lieutenant York successfully returned to resupply a friendly infantry squad. Ignoring his own wounds repeated the trip, again successfully resupplying a second squad. This vital resupply helped keep these infantry squads engaged and prevent the essential landing zone from being overrun by a superior enemy force and prevented the destruction of his platoon. 1st Lieutenant York's heroism, skill, and devotion to duty is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military forces of the Unites States, and reflect great credit upon himself, and the 7th Cavalry Regiment.
